K, ya'll... What is the biggest, baddest, 12v deep cycle battery money can buy? Looking for the longest life and most capacity you can find. Want to extend total battery discharge time on the entire boat for lights, troller, etc. without a genny, converter, etc. Lets hear it.

Im running the Interstate 4D series batteries. They are about twice the size of a 31 series battery so they are big. I think the weigh 117 pounds each but i NEVER run out of juice with them. :)

Also, has anyone ever heard of any setups using a small gas powered engine and an alternator to quickly charge a 12v battery in a boat. It seems like you could cut the number of batteries needed onboard in half if you could do something like this... Battery getting low, just hook it up to alternator setup, fire up the engine for 20 min - half hour, and you're back up and running with a full charge again.?.? Obviously, couldn't use deep cycles because of the quick charge, but just seems like an option.?.?

Did you say FIRE UP a gas engine? You will come to the dark side Luke.....

A converter off generator will accomplish this more efficiently

He doesn't want a gennny Dave, otherwise you mise well run 120 vac lights.

Yea, that why he said a CONVERTER off of a generator.

You either run a bunch of batteries, a couple of batteries off an alternator (say on an airboat) or one big battery and a converter and generator if your going to run a 12v lighting system.

to the OP...

if your going to goof around with a small engine and an alternator, please LAWD save yourself some time money and headache and go buy yourself a generator. What you talking about in your origional post is building a swooga rigged generator....

DO NOT WANT TO LISTEN TO A GENNY ALL NIGHT!!! This is the point. This is one of the reasons we don't fish with a genny now. The majority of our battery usage is troller. Basically 2 batteries = 6 hours. So, for 12 hour shoot, 4 batteries for troller, 1 for jet drive and nav lights, and a battery for each guy on the boat for lights for fishing (usually 3 guys). That's 8 batteries!!! or about 400lbs. This is what I'm trying to get away from, but at the same time not have a genny running all night. Just wondering if anyone had any ingenious way of accomplishing this, different batteries, alternator, a different idea, etc. (and yes, have been told a million times that there are some really quiet gennies, but I still have never passed a boat running a genny in a tournament that I couldn't hear. not trying to have a genny debate!)

Look into the deep cycle batteries they use on some bull dozers and heavy equipment. I can't remember the class or size of em off the top of my head, but they are rated insanely high on ah. They are heavy as hell too tho.

I will check them out. Even if we could run less batteries and weigh the same or even slightly less total, less batteries are easier to find a home for on the boat.

hey bud, last summer i ran 4 50watt and 2 27watt leds with one 80$ wally world deep cycle battery. i could shoot for 4 hours. i now have added 2 42watt leds and another battery hooked up in series for 12 volts. i should get 6 to 8 hours of run time out of it.

has any one looked into comerical batteries like something used on 18 wheelers or maybe even military surplus??

A guy I fish with has some kind of battery like that , I don't know anything about it he said his papaw got it from a rock quarry and it takes 3 of us to put it in the boat and it last forever! Haha

8D battery is the biggest size 12v battery you will find easily available, I like Trojan batteries, they are prolific in the industrial industry. 225ish+/- amp hour range, the benefit is they use full lead plates, where wally world and EVERY MARINE battery uses porous lead plates which limit life span. YOU simply pay what you GET in batteries. And ALL batteries have a life span...period.

what about a alternator hookup to the jet motor? start running low just fire up the big motor?
still sounds like your gonna have to have some kind of motor to genorate your recharge
or take extra batteries in the truck and make a trip half way to get the fully charged ones?
dont know why i'm helping you so much on this lol
maybe you should just quit bowfishing competitively now that i think of it
