I just got a boat a couple weeks ago and most of the lakes around me have tons of houses. Friday night me and anther guy were fishing in a channel that was loaded with carp and a guy came out and told us to get the truck out of there in a not so nice way. How do you guys feel about fishing close to houses? My gennys are Hondas so it not super loud.

I feel as if we are missing some info.

We're you parked on his land? If that's the case then your at fault and you should move.

As a rule I kill the side lights as I pass a house or a house boat. It's just not worth the argument. I was a hot head that fought to much as a kid so it paramount for me to avoid confrontation.

Put yourself in the home owners shoes, do you want those lights shining in your windows in the middle of the night, or listening to a genny or people parked on your land

I think he substituted truck for f*ck...

We try to avoid the big money houses and not hang around one area for long no matter how good that spot is. My generator is a tank over style 3,500w, so a bit louder than an inverter. We have only ever had one complain and a softball sized rock thrown at us in the area when we were exploring it. It had a higher end condo building.

I try to be nice and keep my distance from houses. But on occasion we end up in front of a house. Just deal with it as it comes about. They don't own the water. They chose to live there. We deal with it in the winter time ice fishing also. They complain about augers running and lanterns also. So its a constant battle.

No I wasn't parked on his land I was parked at the public ramp. The lights didn't appear to be shining on his house he just came out yelling. We were on my boat on public water. Of that helps

I'm pretty sure by being "parked" he means sitting in the same place fishing for an extended period of time rather than just trolling down the bank. I would kill your side lights, if possible, and be sure to keep moving instead of just sitting in the same spot.

Post up the guys address, we'll send him a fruit basket. :)

I see it like this. If its legal and your not intensionly shinning you light in there house it's all good. I don't like their docks coming 150 feet out in the lake and I hate jet skis when I'm fishing but that's all legal. I don't pi$$ people off on purpose but the law is the law

If your just trolling by with no light shinning in his house and a quiet genny then **** that guy, like you said he doesn't own the water.

However it's a completely different story if you're fishing the same small stretch of river right behind his house. There are 2 houses withing eye shot/sight of one of my favorite spots on the river near my house. I flat out will not fish them at night. I've spoke with the game wardens and come to an agreement about bowfishing that stretch. As long as no home owners or farmers complain they will not hassle me at all, in fact they've encouraged me, turned me onto some new spots and giving me their business cards as a get outta jail free card.

The point of all this ranting is to thread lightly, void people as much as possible when bow fishing

Like everybody else said. Just keep moving so your not in one spot very long and be curtious and use good judgement. And like stated above they have docks and crap out in the lake to. So you have to deal with them . They use the lake and so does everybody else its public.

What time of night was it ? What I have noticed also is that it's not necessarily lights shining in or on houses but that they can see us. I have had a homeowner come down to their dock and start shining us up with a spotlight, but the house was several hundred yards across the river and up a hill, we were no where near shining their house up. They had lights on in a sunroom and were sitting around a table and looked like playing cards. Everyone got up and looked out the window and one came out and started yelling and lighting us up with a spotlight. We find we have less issues after midnight when people are in bed, kinda like when you wake up and had a thunderstorm overbite and never knew it. But if they are awake and can "see" us all lit up they tend to get curious and come done to investigate and get ignorant.

I also try to avoid it but it does happen . It's not like I try to stay in front of a house for more then a few min . When I have kids and the fowl language comes out I let them know kids are on board and if it continues I call in my own complaint .
