Well ive been looking around for a dedicated bowfishing bow for relatively cheap. I have heard pretty much all great things about Oneidas. Ive seen lots of strike eagles and aero forces for sale, but i dont know anything about them at all. I would basically be clueless if i tried working on one because all i have experience with is compounds. So basically whats a little background on these bows? Would one be ok as a first oneida? Would i be looking at spending alot of money getting it shooting good? And whats a good price to pay for one of these? Sorry i have so many questions, just trying to find out if an Oneida would be an option for me or not. Thanks

If your looking for a Older Oneida look for a H-riser type (screaming Eagle - H-250 H-500 - Tomcat I II II) they are not as heavy - not as Bulk and shoot just as well... they all draw smooth... as far as price 75.00 to 200.00 depending on what kind of shape they are in... biggest thing is to make sure the timing cables - and Power cables are in good shape... but they are not hard to fix and not too spendy... you can pick up a avg shape bow and put new paint - replace hardware with stainless - new string and powercables for under 200.00 easy... Joe can get you a DVD on how to work on them... after you watch the video you will have no problem tearing it down putting back togther and getting it tuned... after you get it tuned they stay tuned...

I will keep an eye out for one. If i can find one cheap even if the cables are shot i might buy it as a project bow. I like building stuff in my spare time so it would be fun to set one up and try it as long as the parts it needs arent too expensive. How hard is it to find parts for the older bows?

But don't get me wrong the Aeroforce is an excellent bowfishing bow and I used one for several years up north

There are many floating around right now, but the really nice ones are bringing $200 to $300 for a ready to shoot bow in perfect working order,I mean new cables and string with a 90% or better condition! If you buy a lesser bow parts and service is abundant for these but expect have about the same money in a lesser shape or less expensive bow by the time you have the cables and string replaced and the bow refinished,Of course going that route you can pick your own colors and patterns!I sure the bows kuger has are worth the money if they fit your specs I have a Late model tomcat that is cherry in a long draw length as well that I would be willing to sell if you have a 31 or 32" draw!Good luck, there is a tremendous amount of expertise and experience with lever bows on this site, all you have to do is ask (I,m not one!)

Thanks for the tips. Might just have to buy myself one in the future ready to go if it will end up costing that much in the long run.

You need to shoot one to see if you like a lever bow before you buy one really, many love them, me included, but some people they just don't suit, they are a very smooth good quality bow that will last a long time, they're are many of the very early 20year old or older oneida's still being used today with great sucess!Good luck!

Thanks Smoke!!!You are %100 right too,the $ can add up,but you do get an understanding of how they operate,I am mechanically challenged and am ashamed to say,I have shot them for over 20 years and thought I knew them pretty well(I could change out the string and the power cables)....I got brave and took one down to paint and couldnt get it back together, with the help Of Jeff,(he put it back for me)I got Joes free DVD and now can do it myself...they are pretty simple really,(I am no pro by no means)and are really adjustable as well!

I have had few old screamers since back then as well, just bought an Osprey and man have they changed!I never had any problems out of any of the 4 I've owned but been doing alot of browsing on here and learning the principles of the lever bows, and they're actually a pretty simplistic design, very user friendly and best of all now it's finally cool to shoot them!
