Running 12 volt from a 24 volt system

okay so I am switching from a 12volt troller to a 24 volt troller ....

I have ran everything in my boat off the 12 volt system (keeping the weight down with only one battery ), the nag lights, bilge pump. Now that i am putting in a 24 volt system, I don't want to add another battery just to run my 12 volt things. Is there anyway to pull 12 volts from the 24 volt system ?

12v just comes off the + and - of (1) battery

The above diagrams are correct but I was told at one point by someone (idiot or expert I don't know) that this causes the batteries to be drawn down unevenly and will result in premature battery failure.

That is kinda true...in a perfect world you would run a 24 to 12v DC~DC converter.

It's not good on the batteries to draw them down unevenly.

It will work but not the best option.

Why don't you just run those off your start batt that's how most boats are ran.

Most of time I never use the nav lights or the bilge pump , I will also be using converters on the batteries. ...
