I added a 70lb Maxxum foot control to my BT 175 Pro and it replaced my 43 lb MG 12 volt. I love this new motor the 24 v system has not stopped or slowed down like the old one did. I can shoot at least 9 hours and still have juice left.

The issue I am curious about is the foot control. I know that some of you guys swear by the sticks but I want to maintain the foot control for now since I can shoot better with that set up. What I have noticed though is that when on high powers I sometimes have trouble getting the thing to turn. It's like once it starts turning it goes all the way in one direction and to correct it I end up going all the way in the other direction. I look like I am drunk weaving all over the lake. I was thinking it is partially because the foot control is not mounted to the deck since I like to move it around sometimes. At times I am pushing so hard to get it to respond that the whole foot unit lifts up rather than just the pedal part. Hope this makes sense and that someone knows what I am doing wrong.

My 80 lb. just started doing that Mike,I am thinking it has to do with needed to tweak the "tune",on the cable. There is an adjustment screw on the front of the foot pedal
Are you talking about the azz end swinging around??If so yea,ya gotta keep your outboard down a little!!!Its your rudder
I find myself agreeing with you alot lately...LOL

Ok Mike, so we don't have the same cursing and yelling we had on the Lake yesterday I did some research online. I found this response to the same problem in a bass fishing blog:

Steering problem from Steve (131.110.85.112) 2/16/2001 4:07:00 PM
With the motor in the down position place your hand on the pedal and test for any play or the lack of it you may have in the pedal. You may have over tight adjustment on you cables. You should have a minor amount of heel/toe play assuring the cables are not too tight. The adjustment is on the base of the pedal console where the cables come out of the base. Simply turn the phillips screw counterclockwise to losen if needed.

I think if we back off that tension screw and drop the outboard to keep the azz end from swinging around as described above, we should be able to overcome the problem. BTW...Im still pi$$ed about blowing the shot on that big goldfish!

Thanks guys for the suggestions. The butt swinging around was a biotch yesterday too. I will keep the motor down, that makes alot of sense. Also thanks Cody will check the tuning for next trip.

Caddis, I am glad to hear that you won't be yelling and cursing once this problem is fixed ;) also I am glad I didn't need to use the Heimlich manuever when you choked on the that goldie. I am guessing that goldfish weighed in at about 7 lbs but by tomorrow it should be 12.

If he missed a 12lb goldfish try the Heiniekick manuever on him.lol

:cheers:Thanks, thats a good thing Sher riff!!

You bet Mike!!Moving a Trim switch up onto my shooting deck was one of the best mods I did on my boat for that reason.....sux to have to get down to lift the motor, when you get into shallows and lower it to rudder ya!!

Great Cody another project for me. Actually my boat has a switch up front but it's below the raised deck I guess I could rig up something to reach it with. Actually Big Bear was on fire the other day and the fish were in the weeds so I was having to pull up my troller about every 15 minutes to pull the strands of weeds. My partner was using his arrow to reach the stuff and pull it off with the barbs of his arrow but maybe I could make something from a wood dowell to both pull weeds and the other end to activate the toggle for the trim. Not sure what I could use to attach to the thing to grab weeds with though.

Yea,Mike my switch was up front too(its under the platform supports so I couldnt get at it,and had to use the one on the shifter)its simple to move.
If you figure something to get them weeds off I want one!!!That Angel hair stuff is terrible,I can chop through Hydrilla and if you slightly lift your troller and at the same time totally spin the head and drop it in the momentum of the boat gets a lot of those weeds off too
