I checked this before I reposition the steering bracket but now I can't raise the kicker motor all the way up cause the drag link hits the braxket that is attached to the motor and the steering cable starts to bend. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, the only thing I can think of is having a quick disconnect on the drag link.

I've se boats that had to unhook the link before tilting the motor up. I think with the way it's setup you'll always have a binding issue somewhere. That's the very reason I with a slower/ weaker powrtan. How high will it go? Past the shallow water catch on the tilt?

Can you put a spherical end on at the motor bracket? It would mean that you'd have to fabricate a new link but you don't have a lot of options from what I'm seeing. Another possibility might be to use a link with a dog leg in it, i.e. a bend that clears the bracket. Being straight and not pivoting is what is causing the problem from what I see.

I moved the link to the pivot point from the bottom to the top and I can get the motor all the way up but it's putting some stress on the cable.

I woulda mounted the cable through the steering tube. Problem solved.

A ball and socket type attachment on the motor end may give you enough pivot to make it work, but I'm doubtful. You really don't wanna strain that cable; it will break it eventually and I'm pretty sure they won't cover it under warranty. Even if they do you'll be outta commission for awhile.

The motor doesn't have a tilt tube, I would have used it if I had it.

could you put a hinge on the flat piece attached to the motor? that way it would fold up when the motor is tilted forward and keep everything in the same plane without putting torsion on any of the tubing

Gotcha.

Sucks there's no way to attach the cable to the motor itself. Looks like a Tohatsu with a chopped handle?
That is correct, that's what I'm trying to figure out now is how to move that bracket closer to the motor, because the steering gets stiff when motor is under power. Only thing I can think of is that the cable just needs to be closer and as collinear to the motor bracket as possible.

This is the bend in the steering cable when the motor is up, would putting a slot in the steering bracket help this? It might let the cable bend at its joint and not flex the rod.
