I am setting up my boat with lights for the first time. I have poured over the archives looking for the best color lights to shoot in water with algae. Most the lakes I will be shooting are fairly clear, but can get a lot of small algae particles. Do you have a light color suggestion? I am going with six 50w Seelites. Thank you.

I can not yet spek from experience but have them mounted on my boat....and one of my huge wants for trying them is the fact that I received some great feed back from a very experienced buddy on them in algae...he said they do great.I am talking about the RPM mean green LED.I am trying the 100 watts.Now......I have used leds for over 6 years now.......and the age old debate about penetration in murky water....particulate is impenetrable,I dont care what light you are using.Alga in essence is particulate, micro but still....

Brackbow welcome to the site. There is more to read on this subject than most would care to do. Where are you located? There is a good chance that somebody on here is somewhere within a few hours of where you are.

A lot of the lakes by me end up turning really green and the hps we have seem to cut through it good til the lake looks like pea soup. Ive never shot over good leds, but have shot some greener lakes was shooting fish and had an led boat go by and say they haven't seen any cause it was so bad.

x2 this, LEDs seem to bounce off of muddy or green water. Whereas HPS cut through it and at least light the fish up to a point where you can see them.

Trevor M,
I am in Boise, ID. I fish the Snake River a lot and dammed reservoirs on the Snake.
killer green is the best for algae water... but for the area your talking IMHO I would get a light with more orange over brite white since you said you shoot the snake which is stained 75% of the time... I shoot these waters and my set up is 400w Digital Ballast with HPS but on clear lake water I switch to MH brite white bulbs...

If you wanna cut glare from lights you gotta match the color of the light to the color of water. Cool white works the best in gin clear water, yellow/orange (hps) works best for dirty water, and green would work best for green water.

Thanks Salty Dawg. I shoot CJ Strike, Hells Canyon, Swan Falls most of the time and of course Lowell during the day. Should I go the Halo lights?
Maybe I will see you on the water!
we are defiantly shooting the same water... hit me up on FB... Jacob Hyer... if your going to run a genny then hands down buy 400w digital ballast they will out perform and cast than any led on the market... after I got mine and everyone saw the coverage I got out of 4 of Killen Time housings (they are out of Poky) people started making the switch... I have about 165.00 per light... I can put Brite white MH or green MH lamps in or just run the Orange HPS... pretty much can match my water with just a bulb change... if your set on green thou plan on paying 35.00 per lamp vs the 12.00 for a HPS...
