I picked up a Strike Eagle from an old friend a while back and quickly decided it needed some work. I stumbled across some videos on youtube of a guy dipping a guitar and decided i would experiment on the strike eagle. I know this isnt as good of a job as a professional hydro dip and probably wont last as long but I am the kind of guy that loves to do it myself.

Thanks guys.

Wow, I'm impressed. And for me to say that then that says a lot!! Care to instruct us on how to do that?

Ya I will be glad to instruct you guys because when I was learning this no one on the Internet wanted to give out their secrets and it made it a little harder.

This "recipe" is for testors oil based enamel model car paint.
Strip paint off bow, prime, paint your desired base coat.
Fill a large container with 70 degree (F) water (you must know an accurate measurement of how much water is in the container in gallons)
Add 1.7 tablespoons of borax detergent booster per gallon of water. Stir until its all dissolved. (A generic measurement for any other paint is 1.5 tablespoons. I found that 1.7 worked well with testors)
Make sure the water is 70 degrees. This is the most important part! If not the paint will form a skin on top of the water.
Starting with base color pour a few drops of paint onto the water surface. Make sure that you hold the jar close to the water because if you hold it high the paint will have to much speed when falling and it will sink instead of float. Now pour your other color on the water. Swirl the colors with a toothpick or something similar. After getting the desired swirl dip your piece vertically into the paint. Dip it slow and as you are moving it down also go from one side of the container to the other and rotate it so that the pattern will be unique.
Once the item is in the water use knapkins or something similar to wipe the paint off the surface of the water. Then pull the piece back through the water.
Once dry apply several layers of clear coat.

I highly suggest you make a few test runs before you dip something important. It's very simple to do but a few test runs will help you master the process. You can use as many colors as you want. I just only wanted to use the green and black. I suggest searching youtube for "swirl dipping guitar" and watching some videos.

And finally if you dip something following this recipe or was inspired to do it from this thread please send me pictures of it because I want to see it!

Salty dawg wrote a great tutorial on how to do it and I put my own 2cents in with some pics and videos. Should of used the search button and saved some time. Bow looks kinda like my H250! Great job!
