This past summer I purchased a 1242 Jon Boat for $175. I'm 15 so I figured this would be a good starting boat. For this boat I'm putting a deck that goes 5' back from the front and will sit flush below the gunnel. Since the boat is small and is rated for around 500 lbs. I'm debating weither to use 2 batteries or a genny with 1 battery. If I would use a genny it would weigh around 45 lbs. Which route should I take? LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK! Thanks in advance for your help!

Lookin good! Just a word of advice when you set up your troller and led batteries make sure that you run wire to the. Ack of the boat (put your batteries back there) that will help counter weight some of the weight up front. Just be sure to use at least 6 gauge wire if you do that since the resistance will go way up!

Thanks for all the comments guys! I want to keep it cheap but if there is one pet peeve i have it is when people do a lazy ass job at building / making something. I have no problem with keeping it cheap but if its gonna look like crap don't even bother. And i don't know why only half of those pics are showing. The 3rd picture is the same as the others except the storage cover is opened. I am going to put the other 2 little pieces on each side and the front cover on tonight. Also just for everyone's information who tried to pursuade me to get LED's. You did a pretty damn good job because i decided to go LED.

Which ever way you go make sure when you start shooting fish and putting them in the boat you pay attention to how low you are setting in the water. It is very easy to sink a small boat, have done it a few times and it is not fun getting your stuff back. Not to mention the damage that can be caused to equipment when it goes under water.

Nobody had said you are brain dead that I recall. Hell, you might be smarter than most of us on here. Nobody knows and nobody cares...

Nevertheless, this thread demonstrates that you are willing to give advise on things that you clearly know nothing about, your posts conflict with each other and are often plain wrong, and (unfortunately) it appears some people actually think you know what you're talking about.

I have no problem with you, with inexperience, or with trying to help others. I just have to draw the line when someone with no experience in certain areas tries to help someone in that area, but in reality, is actually just spewing a bunch of BS to their detriment.

Does that answer your question? Or was there something else?

i would go with what astro said if your gonna get a bigger and better boat. just save your money so that your next boat doesn't look like it was pieced together. since when was i going against what anybody said, i was saying all the same stuff you guys were, i still think LEDs would be best. also for future reference don't just say someone is wrong, actually point what is wrong with what they said, cause if i'm wrong i would like to know that way i'm not misleading someone or myself. also i put bedliner on my deck if you haven't already done it, just the cheap duplicolor stuff out of the spray can.

if you really are getting a bigger boat this summer then get stuff that you can use on the bigger boat dont just blow your money on stuff that you will only use on the small boat then sit to collect dust. I would go with LED's thats what i would do if I was settin up a new boat i would get some good batteries and some good LEDs and roll with it. I cant tell you how many times i wish that genny wasnt so dang loud
