Alright so I guess i tryed to post last night in while they were upgrading the server and it didnt go through...my luck..Here it is again.
My wife went bowfishing with Hoopty and his wife a couple of years ago while i was out of town. She got hooked and has been trying to get me to go since. I finally had the opportunity to go with a buddy of mine and had a blast so I thought i would build my 1648..I have limited steel welding experience(im alright) but i though Aluminum cant be that much harder, so i bought a spoolgun....wrong ! But im getting better.here it is ... I had to build the transom up for a 20'' motor i got a good deal on.

Took her out today for a test run to make sure she sat right..sits great, me and my wife on the front no problem, couple of small leaks where welded rivet holes...more welding...stupid thin gauge sides... Bad news is motor has no forward gear only reverse and dumps gas out of the carb? Buddy of mine is trying to sell me a 60 hp yamaha four stroke I am contemplating it... Percolating the idea lol

And.... The motor is running like a scalded Dog. I didn't have the linkage adjusted right and thats why I didn't have a forward gear...duh. Guy who was supposed to clean the carb rebuilt the carb for free cuz his lackey messed it up when he cleaned it. Anyhow great runnin motor. Thanks Hoopty

Got the lights hard mounted And couldn't resist hot wiring them to the battery. They are really bright and bad to the bone. I decided needed four more lights. two more for the front and two in the back .We are painting the boat now and don't lack much to be fishing. I still have to hard wire the lights and finish the battery box. The honda came in finallY. it is ridiculous quiet. We have a general 6000 we had contemplated using but I'm glad we bought the Honda

Finally done..well as done as I can get right now still waiting on 4 more lights. We went to Martin lake last night but it was crazy foggy and a cool front pushed the tilapia deep I guess . But we shot some needle nose and a couple carp

I had the 27's on my old boat and they worked well but I built a 1648 this winter and went with the 50's and I like them a lot better. It actually took about 3 of the 27's to put out the amount of light 1 of the 50's does. You will be fine with the 16 -27's you have the 50's just cut down on wiring and the spacing of the lights.

here is my setup.

How does that 25hp move that thing? I just bought a 1648 with a 30 on it (havnt even had it on the water yet) and am concerned that after I deck it, the motor won't have the balls to get it up on plane. You do ok with it? Thanks

Cool thanks, if I can get it on plane that is all that will matter. Going to use this boat instead of my 19' Champion with a 200 on it. Gonna need to get used to 25mph instead of 65. Pay off is going to be getting in those back areas tho and getting those silvers to jump too!:D

Ya for sure. I can run through 2' waves like nothn at 50 plus, just drop the bow a bit and rock and roll. It is fun to watch even some pleasure boaters try and keep up with us on the Illinois river. And that's with a 55 gallon drum full of silvers on the bow!

And post up Badtx on how she does. Thanks!
Waters finally started to get soft again up here so we will be out soon....
