First post here guys, wanted to share a report and ask a couple questions. As you can see from our bow and rig we are new to bow fishing but definitely addicted already.
We went out last weekend for a few hours and ended up with 5 snakeheads up to around 6 lbs. We lost a few really nice ones including an estimated 8 lb that I shot in the gut and lost. We were fighting the fish in and after the arrow pulled crazy enough there was about a 8 inch long cichlid that was half way digested still on the barbs. Needless to say, the original fish we shot had a bad night.
I had a question regarding shooting in an area with a rocky bottom. Besides dulling tips, the there were a number of fish shot that were hit with a normally great shot, but the arrow went through the fish and bounced back without grabbing the fish. After the first few misses I was blaming myself for simply missing but both guys in the boat realized that the shots were on point. In trying to adjust I stopped using a full draw and tried to get a more angled shot on them and it seemed to help but if someone can provide any insight I'd appreciate it.
We tried to get some video footage as well with a rigged gopro on the bow but results don't look too promising with how dull our lighting was.
After this trip I bought an AMS retriever and starting to design a HPS lighting setup for my bay boat. Look forward to stepping up our game and sharing with you guys what South Florida has to offer.
