well I dont have my new 4 stroke kicker set up but she looks good in the basement! Really looking forward to it though!!!
I have a Yamaha 4 stroke 9.9 I will be using on my new 1860, It is super quite, no smoke, run idle all night with out having to worry about fouled spark plugs!
Down side is its bigger and heavier then 2 stroke model! but I think the pros with out weigh the cons!

Agree.

4 stroke. No fouling no smoke less noise no mixing gas . The difference in weight shouldn't be enough to matter.smoother running and idle. It'll crank when its cold or has sat a while. The only way I would own anything two stroke anymore is if it had two wheels and I needed it to go real fast.

i had a 9.9 2 stroke on my old boat...it worked well...mixed oil 40:1 and didnt have any issues...but i dont idle much:D....

the boat i have now has a four stroke 9.9....it does good also...its a good bit more quiet..cant really tell much of a difference on fuel consumption, its about 20lbs heavier than the 2 stroke,it cranks easier than the 2 stroke...

bottom line...if you got the money go ahead and get the 4 stroke...if not then i wouldnt hesitate to put a 2 stroke on and go

I gotta go with the cost factor and what I can get the best deal on at the time of the build or during the planning. I picked up a 30hp Yamaha for 400 on Craigslist. :tu:
