Well after going an entire day without BFC, I was forced to get my bowfishing fix on the lake last night… My throttle cables froze up we were limited to just the outboard for the night. We unloaded and started fishing just around the corner from the ramp, immediately we were on fish, suckers, shad, several commons, and a snapper or two…
*
Well after getting way back in the end of the cove, we got stuck on a mud bar… after trying to get off the bar we hopped off the back of the boat and pushed ourselves off, knocking the stern light out in the process. We were cold and wet, and decided to fish it back to the ramp and call it a night. About 50 yards from the ramp I saw the game warden headed towards us with his flashlight…
*
He explained that he had a call from a local, that we were throwing nets and catching fish, and that he had been sitting there watching us since we were stuck on the mud bar over an hour ago…He went through the normal stuff, license, registration, insurance, boater’s safety card, life jackets, throw cushion, fire extinguisher, we were good to go! He checked the fish bucket, gave me a run through making sure I knew the game laws on turtles, “which I did”. Then he asked repeatedly if any of us had been drinking, we told him no…no one had had anything to drink all night other than Mt. Dew or water! He then informed me that he was going to write me a citation for no stern light; I explained to him that we had just broken it while pushing the boat out of the mud. He said it didn’t matter, even though we had 4 400 HPS’s on the bow, we were still a hazard and could be mistaken for something else or missed all together! He wrote me a $200 ticket for no stern light, and explained to me several times that I “didn’t have to appear”. I then explained to the “new guy” that I was very good friends with the head lake ranger, and his boss there at the Game and Fish, and that I’d gladly be in court, just to show how stupid he made himself look!

So we need to keep BFC online…it got me a ticket!!!

sounds like a crappy deal that he didn't just give you a warning and sucks its 200 bucks but hes right and your wrong man don't matter how many lights you have still got to have the little red and green and the white all around thats the law he didn't make it just being a prick about inforcing it.

we used to have a game warden like that. He would have wrote his own wife a ticket just to see the look on her face and feel the power rush. some people just shouldn't be cops or wardens.
I bet she wasn't his wife much longer...

Its almost comical how power crazy they get. I see your from northeast Indiana. Did you ever have to deal with Penzinger?
Not All Cops get power crazy... i've had quite a few encounters with Really nice and understanding cops it's just you normally only hear about the ones that are A$$holes. It's real similar to our image as bowfishers, a lot of the public doesn't hear about how we're doing the ecosystem a favor by removing carp they only hear about how we're senselessly killing fish for fun and people just draw to conclusions way to fast that way.

I agree completly, I have met many cops who were just as fed up with power crazy cops as bowfiherman gett fed up with bowfisherman who don't put there best foot forward for the sport.

Man that sucks. I've known plenty of cops and game wardens that were great guys... unfortunately just as many are not so great. Small town cops are the worst.
Bout 5 years ago in my home town my old neighbors son (who happens to be a decorated officer in the army, veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, and currently in his 4th or 5th re-enlistment) was given a ticket by one of the local cops for doing 3 miles over the limit.
Had a game warden decide that instead of driving on the path AROUND the field he would drive his truck straight across about 300 yds of a farmers winter wheat to just to check our licenses.

Never know what they are told from the top. If a couple of wardens have no tickets in a week and the others have 5 or ten they ae going to be asking about why he has none. Same as police, they have a quota system. Always have, my Dad was a cop for 30 years.

That's what I was thinking too.Getting up towards the end of the month.I got a DWI once sober as a judge. That has been about eight years ago and it still pisses me off every time I think about it.
