Can I turn an old Hoyt compound into a bowfishing rig? Is there a certain poundage I should try to use for bowfishing? I also have a Mathews that I deer hunt with that I could use.... I think?

I just don't know what the difference is between a Fishing bow, and a hunting bow, other that the string attached to the arrow and reel.

Any ideas on where I should start? Don't kill the new guy... Thanks fellas. :co:

hunting bows make good fishing bows. What is the poundage on your hoyt? 30-60 lbs works for fishing most will say 40-50 is optimum. Get a couple fishing arrows and a reel and have fun!

i would use the hoyt, a bowfishing bow will see some abuse, and you never know when its gonna go for a swim!

Man my backup is an old hoyt and I love it its killed more fish then any other bow I've shot. Oltrusty is what I call her

Ok, good deal. I don't remember the draw weight on the hoyt, but it will probably be above 50, so I'll adjust it a little to my liking. Thanks for the help fellas.

Just be carefull and dont turn it down so far that you take the poundage bolt clear out. Other than that It will work fine for ya

Same here. Those old hunting bows work just dandy for bowfishing.

Old hunting bows are definitely the way to go especially just getting started. Still have an old York for a backup, heavy as hell, but killed alot of fish with that dude.

I'm a fan of zero letoff for bowfishing so i shoot a mathews sportsman which i absolutely love an got it set round 46lbs i think. I also have some recurves i shoot and i got an old Bear Polar Ltd thats my back up which is ancient but still gets the job done!
