im new to the airboating. i had the boat about 2 weeks. it a 18X8 silver dollar with a 454 it has a 2to1 stinger reduction and 2 blade stump puller . my ? is what can i do to get the best performance out of the 454. 3 blade prop. differnt kind of prop. or just leave it alone and run it. i just want some advise on the best prop for what i have.

with a 2:1 drive, that stump puller is a good prop and the one i would choose. On my previous boat, i had a 496 with a 2:1 drive and a 3 blade stump puller maxed out and that was the perfect combo.

The 454 can be upgraded with intake, heads, headers, cam , etc but not sure exactly what you have.

so will a 3 blade stump puller help with low end push as far a geting on plain and push better dry im green on this stuff trying to learn as much as i can.

Leave it alone unless I want to drop some cheese on new props/ gears... All I'm gona say is 2.3 reduction ratio and a 3 blade prop ....let me back up...is it a bone stock 454 or do it have aluminium heads? High output ...how much HP u making?

im running a 20x8 with a built 454 2.3 belt drive and 82" 3 blade whirlwind with it pitched on 3 and it does anything I want to do with it, maxes out right about 4900. if i had the money I would like to try a different prop on mine as well with maybe a 2.68 geardrive a 4blade superwide or something of the sort.

Yea you wont have enough HP to turn a 3blade s blade. You have a few options but dont how much your going to be able to change the performance. Sure, changing reductions (going up in ratio) will help you, but it all comes back to your motor. If it were me, Id do like brady said get the new ch4 2.5:1 and run a 4 blade with the r blades. If your motor will turn them than youd be alright, but Im not even sure youd be able to turn that, you may have to run 3 r blades on that 454...

If the boat was set up from SD with that reduction and prop, you can pretty much bet it is what you need for the hp you are making. My suggestion would be run it till the motor quits and then put a 572 on it with a 2.3 reduction and a 3 82 in super wides. That will get you going.

yup, that 2:1 reduction is a little "dated" compared to the more common ratios used today.

If you have your heart set on a 3 blade, you will have to swap that 2:1 for a 2.3:1 at the least.

you will loose $$$ on selling your 2 blade and 2:1 because they are not as desired as they once used to be.

GarGuys said it best, run what you got untill it lets go, then salvage whats left and make the upgrades to better suit your needs.

Why the superwides? I am running it now, but i have felt that the whirlwinds i have run in the past perform better. Whirlwind has a new whispertip wide blade that will more than likely end up on my boat this winter.
