I figured i'd sum up all of my questions into one post. So, if you can answer any of them I would greatly appreciate it! Currently i'm running 8 500w halos, but I can no longer stand the constant noise required to run that. I dont have the money required to go out and but nice new 4 stroke gennys, so I'm looking to downgrade my watts. So first off, im not sure whether to go with leds or HPS lights. If i go with the leds I've found some nice 27w ones, but there a different style then the 50w and 20w ones i've seen. Is there a downside to those? And if I go with HPS is there a big difference between the watt/amp draw between ones without caps and the ones with? I'm also wondering about where everyone orders their lights from? And any potential setups/diagrams that people have for their own boats?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

econolight has alot of hps and mh lights. There is a pretty big diffrence in hps with and with out caps theres a chart on here you can check out. You could just buy 300 or 225 bulbs for the lights you got now and the coverage would be just as good then build a box for your genny to go in that helps some.

Like Moyo said.. Just switch bulbs to the 225w ultra bulbs.. That will bring your genny from pounding out 4000w down to 1800 watts.. The 225w Ultra bulbs are as bright as a 300w halogen and doesn't put out as much glare on the water... You won't be disapointed..

About the only hps lights that you'll find that come without caps are some of the cheaper 150's. The hpf 150's cost a tad more but have a cap and use less than 1/2 as much electricity. Imo the 50 watt leds are a better deal since the 27 watters aren't that bright.

thank you, after seeing this I think I will replace a bunch of my halos with those blubs to cut down to about 1500 lights then maybe start working some of the 50w leds into the mix. Would the mixture of light distort anything in the water? Also I believe that Halos have the same starting watt as running watts, is that true for leds as well? And say I wanted to run my halos and leds off of the generator, but have the ability to run my leds just off of a battery (lets say about 4 of the 50watters). Is there a way to do that? And how long would a single deep cycle last If I was to do that?

Thanks again,

http://bow.fishingcountry.com/forums/showthread.php?18177-Got-my-50-Watt-LEDS, Should be able to answer alot of yor questions here, the whole LED technology has been moving pretty fast especially the last couple months as far as bowfishing is concerned. The price of the lights finally reached a point to become somewhat practical to set up a boat now.Customfitz sells them for around $90 shipped tyd apiece, each light pulls .5 or 1/2 amp in the 120v ac version,(8) 50 watt led lights are less amps than (1) 500 watt halo with standard 500 watt bulb,(4) lights is about same as with a 225 ultra bulb installed. The LED's can also be run on an 12vdc to 120vac inverter or can be bought in 12/24 volt dc version and run on battery(ies) It sounds like you have the basic halo setup alot of us started fishing with, and time for an upgrade.I would think a combo of halo/ LED would be hard to fish with they are 2 totally different color lights.
