Anyone else having trouble taking cap off the F&D reel seat after mounting?

I really like the F&D reel seat and rod and Fred was super nice on the phone, invited me fishing. I bought a used F&D that was stuck and Fred talked me through removing it. So I bought a couple more new ones... same issue.

I messed up my line real bad and was trying to put my spare reel on the other night and for the life of me could not get the cap off... AGAIN. Fred warned me not to over-tighten the rod nut so I did not but I can never get the caps off these things unless I put a wrench over the rest behind cap and smack the hell out of the wrench rotating top and bottom until cap flies across the room.

Anyone else having same issue? Better solution to removing these in the field/on the boat?

same here....I even put anti seize all over it. still had to beat it off with a hammer.

Take a crescent wrench, place around the cap and tap it with a hammer

That is what I am doing, that is the question, any other fix to easy removal. Any like others said, lot of times way more than a "tap" to get them off.

I put mine in the lathe at work and sand the end so its not so tight, it still holds perfect and don't move. Just easier removal and i use a rubber hammer to take it off so it don't mess it all up

The newer slim models had a spot lathed in for the reel so it removes easier. Mine comes off with a lil tap. Also leave rod part way screwed in so parts dont fly all over

Both new ones are the "new model" stuck like crazy. Good advice on leave rod in... Guess add hammer and wrench to boat tools.
