I am contemplating running a Powrtran on my kicker motor and was wondering if you guys have had good luck with them or not... Seems like a fairly straightforward setup.... give me the skinny on whatcha think....

Anyone here running a Powrtran?
I run one on my setup and I like it. It doesnt get in the way moving around and mine is fast turning, however, that is because I have the older model. The newer actuators turn slower. The slower ones allow for more precise turning and quiter operation but sometimes you need to turn it fast. I had a pulley and cables on my first kicker, power tran on this one, and I will put a push pull on the next one.
I had an older one on my last boat, and overall I liked it. It was plenty fast, but lacked power when trying to turn against any kind of water flow. For example, if you turned left, gassed it, then tried to make the boat turn right before it straightened out, it would fall on its arse.
Another thing I didnt like is it would get stuck at full extention fairly often. When that happened you'd have to walk back and pull it back in line.
With electric actuators you either have speed, or torque (power)-but not both. To gain one you have to give up the other. The newer ones are a little slower, so hopefully they are stronger.
Its not a bad option, mostly because theres not really any viable competition on the market. This winter Im fixing to try a form of 'hybrid' system...Ill post results if it turns out good.

I really like mine but I think it is dependent on what you want...as is everything in bow fishing. As far as turning goes I have no complaints as to the speed of it. I'm sure I could probably turn faster with a push/pull but I have yet to have a problem. One of the main "pros" with it for me is that it is a stationary control. I don't have to worry about having 2 feet in front and behind the controls clear in order to turn. It frees up some real estate on the deck.
