Wondering if anyone is running a jet-drive outboard. Bought one this weekend pick it up Monday. Its an 05 lowe roughneck 1960mt with a tunnel. The motor is a 95 135/90 johnson jet. My biggest Worry is weight balance after I build a platform, mount lights, etc. And keeping the suction foot/intake in the water. Does anyone have any experience with this setup? Any other advise regarding jet or setup would be appreciated. Its my first boat build. Really excited. Thanks.

Several people on here run jet lowers on outboards. When building you deck use aluminum if you can, if not don't over build it and add any more weight than you have to. Keep your batteries/generator and anything else you can in the back

Weight isn't a big deal, just keep majority of it in the rear. I have two right now 19/72 Gregor 200 merc, 18/72 Fischer 115 merc. Both have platforms and perform great on the water. Only other boat I've owned is mud boats, jets are ten times better for handled g weight.

Look up www.jetdoctor.com call him and ask him all your questions.
He helped me alot..
I also started out with a jackplate because when I es having my boat built I didn't know I was homna run a jet.
HORRIBLE idea.. 2 weeks ago I removed the jackplate and raised my transom. It performed 100% better, fuel milage, speed, everything improved!

weve been running jets since the mid 80's...and the tunnel will kill you, and the rev limiter will engage, but its the idea that youll be sucking air instead of water, hurting your performance under power, this is cavitation. call outboardjets...they manufacture basically every jet lower unit and have been doing it since the 50's or earlier maybe? its definately a west/mid-west thing, but alot of guys run them on the east coast due to the rocks. But, theyre awful in mud, sand, ice, grass, leaves on the bottom...i ditched mine for a mud buddy and never looked back
