NEVER tie to the back with a retriever. Doesnt matter what kind of line you have in it... Always use slides with it, and i really dont think you will need a slotted retriever either. If anything get a normal retriever pro with an extended bottle filled with 50yards of 400# fast flight (FF) line. Use an Innerloc Grapple point on a normal fiberglass arrow. Do not worry about the cable or bands or anything. The reason bowfishing arrows are fiberglass is to bend so you can fight fish with them without breaking them. Just use a normal AMS slide and dont worry about anything else. Good luck

dear sirs

i appreciate your valuable help.
but i am a little confused.

a sloted retriever isnt necessary to deal with large fish as rays and sharks?
but the fish can go away with all my line.
and i think a reel attached to the bow could lead to a situation where all the line goes away, pushing my bow into the water, am i wrong?

if it all (sloted retriever, wire cabled arrow and detachable points) is unnecessary, why do the people advise it use in the "da internet" ?

sorry about my confusion.

i aprreciate any advise.

thanks
No a slotted retriever is not necessary... Many guys on here shoot 150-200lb alligator gar with spincast style reels with 25yds of line onthem... If you dont let go of the bow theres no way it can be pulled in... Hold the line or the bow and let the fish pull you if it really pulls out all 30-50yds of line. And i dont know of anyone who " recommends" the cables, the website link you had was just a "how to rig it" not a "you should use this". Slides are the way to go with any retriever reel.

a slotted retriever is a pro... its just that one is a normal retriever and one is a slotted version, one has line tied to the rear of the bottle and the other has a slot where the end of the line comes out of the bottle and ties to the float. they are the same reel except for a few small components to make it slotted.
