What do you look for in a lake/river when you're deciding on wether or not to bowfish on it? Are there certain characteristics a lake/river can have that make it better for daytime vs. nightime bowfishing?

I've been trying my hand at bowfishing for a few years now, and I've never been very sucessful. Only a fish here and there when I get lucky, and twice as many lost arrows. :headbang: I'm trying to figure out infomartion on how, when and where to locate fish. All the help would be appreciated!

This time of year, look for spawning fish...shallow water

they wont be spawwning for awhile the airs hardly geting above 50 and the ice came off within the week.

check the dnr website it will tell you if a body of water has carp in it and make sure you have a spot to dump your fish other than leaving em on the bank/access

I'm in a similar situation. I bought some lake maps books that had some stocking recordes and population surveys. I have a buddy that got me into bowfishing and he is "taking me under his wing". I'm aso going out of my way to go ask the locals.

I'm from the Anoka area. I've got the Mississippi River, Rum River and multiple lakes all within the area. In the past I've just have trouble finding fish, but the responses to my questions will help a lot! thanks!

We usually start whither sloughs(?) that have some current then then try to find the shallowest we can float in. Seems the moving water holds more fish. When spawn is on we just head to any shallow flat and start there. Don't know if we are right just how we roll. Remember ALWAYS get a fresh dip of snuff BEFORE you shoot the first arrow. Hahaha
