Seriously though, that link in podunk about the "facebook baby" is infected or something. I clicked on the link and it opened up about 1,000 copies of itself. I couldn't close them as fast as new ones would open up. I had to unplug the computer to make it quit.

The link was orginally from Egypt.

Yep, Alex just checked it out and deleted it, he said it had jscript attached to the link.

I knew it was a "dirty/infected" link just as soon as I opened it.

My virus program didn't try to stop it though :cf:

Well, given that we have run through the night and the instant issues cleared up we think we might have a handle on it.
Going to let it run for another 24 or 48 hrs on the current setup. If it stays solid then we will move it back to the fast server again this weekend with the fix in place.

I am still convinced that something happened during the outside script BS.
With us having to hard start the server a few times I think a config file got corrupted somewhere. But we also found that the LS version of Apache we were running on the new server has been reported to be susceptible to DDoS attacks. The version on this current server is 1 back and doesnt have the issue. It may be that simple.

either way, I could use 1-2 days of calm so we will ride it out and see how it goes.

Fairly confident we resolved the issue.. will be moving back to the new server this weekend.
we are pushing about 1 million connections per day and 3.5 gigs of data per day as well.
