Just givin you a hard time man! Your doing a good job for sure! What fan setup are you going with?
Im limited on money so for now I have a new kholer 13hp motor, I still got to get a prop and cables. I havent made my mind up on push pull or cable and pulleys. Any input on prop to get and cables would be GREAT.

Also I need to beef up my transom. Here are some pics of what I got. There are multiple cracks. I would like to put like 4 uprights from the bottom of the boat to the transom but there is wood in there. If I did that and I ever had to replace the wood I would have to cut each one of them out. I rather not rip my transom apart. What do yall think????!!??

Any tips on fan controls or ideas to beef up my transom. If just grind out the welds and re-weld them I would think they would just break again. This transom doesnt look near as strong as some of the ones I have seen on here and thats a pretty big motor bouncing back there.

Thanks, Cody

id spent the money cutting the back of that boat off and building it upstrong before id spent the money on some other things if your short on funds build it strong first make it pretty later!

get rid of that wood!

Is there a thread on here that shows some on building up the transom? I would like to get ideas first. Man oh man. Will this put a dent in things lol. What thickness of metal should I use? Sounds like in for an even funner project now lol. My origanal plan on this boat was to have no wood or steel. But that one piece of wood is in there pretty good lol.

Thanks, Cody

Definitely cut tht wood out! Even if it means being a troller boat instead of a fan boat for a while! 3/16 transom material! Check around in our ******* boats thread I'm pretty sure there are some pictures of hour our transoms are built there :tu:

Thanks. I just looked. Im not going to be running a jack plate $$$ for awhile if at all. Would like to tho. So some 3/16 and like some 3 or 4 pieces of 4" c-channel running horizontal should do? and maybe some up-rights on it to?

You don't have to build it up with a backsplash like these pictures but in the last one you can see how the transom is braced on the inside! Hope this helps! If you need more just let me know and I will do what I can to help you out!

That is nice. Would it be ok to run all the c-channle horizontal or no? Like 4 every 5"? The reason is that I dont want to put diamond plate on the bottom of the boat in the back bc of the drain plug access and being able to clean all the ribs out back there. Or just one horizontal and two verticals on each side of the middle Keel( I think its called) ( the middle rib) and weld them to the floor of the boat? If you look at the pic of my transom above it may make what Im trying to say a little clearer.

Sorry if that seems confusing lol

I'm not an engineer, I will talk to Shawn later and see what he says! I'm sure there are some guys on here with more experience than me that can weigh in on this also. I would basically build it much like the transom in pictures I posted

You said transom material. Is there a special aluminum for the transom or are you just saying a sheet of that thickness is transom material??

Sorry if that is a dumb question, But if im going to do it want to make sure I buy the right stuff lol.

Thanks, Cody

I'd tear the entire transom out and re-fab a new one, if it's as messed up as I think it is-judging by your pics.

Mine (and most boats I've seen) have 1/8' aluminum plate with 2x4" or 2x6" rectangular TUBING welded to it. As far as I can tell there isn't any 'C' channel used usually.

IMO, the ultimate insanely massive beefy transom would be some 2x6" and 2x4" tubing sandwiched in between 2 seperate 1/8" aluminum plates. It would be heavy but strong and outlast the rest of the boat!

Go to a local marina and inspect/snap pics of their factory transoms in their boats. Mimick what the comercially made boats have in them.

Sorry for any confusion just 3/16 aluminum! Like carpcommander said cut the whole transom off, brace it with 2x6 tubing like in the picture! Make sure you clean all the welds especially good since they will be "outside" welds. If you need more pics I can get Shawn to take a few more and email them to you!
It will probably be a bit of a pain and set you back some on a fan but you will be happy you did in the long run! Also something to consider, you will want the transom built good since extra stress will be added later with the addition of the fan!

Here's a few from my build-not sure if this will help...

If you zoom in on this pic, it shows the original factory transom, rated for up to 140HP. It's a mix of 2x4 and 2x6 tubing welded to the 1/8" hull.

Here's some of what I added-this is the left rear corner if you're looking towards the REAR of the boat. Just a simple 2x4" corner brace.

And then finally I braced the factory transom up to an additional 2x4" I ran across the rear of the boat.

Hope that maybe gives ya some ideas-looking good so far though-keep on it!

You did an effin sweet job on that rig CC...I can't wait to see it next week at Erie.

I haven't built a boat before, but if I could add my 2 cents, I would say build an entire new transom as well. Do you have a transom saver for when you are on the road? From what I understand, that's when the most damage to the transom can happen....

All in all, you are doing an awesome job on it. I'll get around to building my own when the wife graduates school next month and that financial burden is out of the way.
