That's a big azz buffalo... lol I'd say that's a black buff IMO. I've never seen a black that big, even though they can be up to 50 lbs. I've got a spot that I can shoot a lot of black buffs on the Wabash here in north central Indiana. Black buffs are like big mouth, but their mouth is more horizontal with thick lips. The mouth is below the eye and the body is shorter and stockier than a small mouth. The distance from mouth to eye is about double on the black. It's very hard to tell the difference, and I could be wrong, but your fish fits my description, so that's what I think... my .02 Nice fish!

Thanks for the replies. I'm leaning toward black, myself, as my Fishes of the Great Lakes Region ID book, doesn't show anything but the Black has been found near where I live. The problem is with my ID book is the pictures look so different than the reference photos due to the size of the fish I shot.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you should have seen the size of the one that got away ;)
