OK this seems to be a smallmouth buffalo.
I had a local tell me It could be a freshwater drum, AKA Gaspagu. However all the photos I could find of the Gaspagu lacked the two anal fins this fish has, and the discription of the gaspagu's normal haunts does not jive with the habitat I find these in. I find these in clear backwaters, in waters from 6 feet to 6 inches deep. They seem to be pretty plentiful, and tough I have lost count of the number of time I have hit them only to get my airrow back with scales stuck on the tip. granted I was only shooting a 30# bow, in pretty deep water. I have started carrying my H250 in the boat more lol.
So based on some pictures, not Mudfishes thumbnail, and descriptions of their habbitat I have to conclude this is a smallmouth buffalo, and not a freshwater drum. Both of the links Mudfish has provided seem to bare this out.
