Well decided I need to try a crawfish boil, and as luck would have it, its happening this weekend. This is my first time, virgin if you will :shh:, and I need all the help I can get to make this a great boil. Any help or tired and true recipes would be great. Step by step directions would also be a plus as well.

The small amount of researching I have done on the subject matter has indicated that you don't want to purge them but rather rinse them off good. What is the advantage to purging them?

Purging is definitely the most important part.. but the crab boil Zattarain is my favorite, make sure you have enough Crab boil for the pounds Of Crawfish. put the crab boil in your pot with water, whole onion and the garlic clove, bring it to a boil-for 5 minuets... Then add New potatoes, lemons cut in half and two packages of mushrooms bring to boil-5 minutes, then add corn bugs and a whole stick of butter boil for 2-5 minutes then let them set for 20 minuets.
Let's say I got 25lbs of bugs I'm gonna have 2 onions two garlic 3 lbs of new potatoes 12 small corns, 3 big lemons, two packages of mushrooms and a sick of butter....You can add and take away ingredients but always purge, plenty of crab boil and butter, and a long soak time.

I don't suspect the women folk are gonna eat like me and the boys do but we got 30 lbs of bugs coming for about 8 of us. I think we should be good on food lol. Thanks for the tips. Another question, have you ever tired using an airator to purge them over a 24 hour period or does the saltwater work that well?

Don't forget to add smoked sausage to the boil also! Cut into thick pieces and add to boil. Add plenty of garlic cloves also. They are really freakin good to eat! Mushrooms, potatoes, corn garlic, sausage lemon halves! Yummmm

I am a mirco-brew guy myself so it will probably be an IPA from one of the local breweries but if I don't wanna spend the money on them probably go with the Bud Light.

I put new red potatoes, corn, lemons, garlic and most important bratwurst in the boil. And we us a bag and liquid zatarans along with red pepper, peppercorns and salt. The main thing is after they are done boiling turn the fire of and let them set in the liquid for awhile to absorb the flavor more.
I am no cajun but this is what we do.

You know we got a butt load of lakes up here right? Like over 11,000. Most all of them have these mudbug critters the locals (not me or any of my ******* friends) call crayfish. But if you must know I ordered them from a high end food supplier.

Smelt absolutely good chit right there. Lampreys and snail.... negative. We've got the mugbugs, mostly in the clear lakes up in the north part of the state is where I find them. Never trapped them to eat though.

Yes they are, unfortunately we don't get the runs like we use to. I remember going out with my Grand dad and filling up a 55 gallon drum of them suckers. Made for a long day of cleaning!

Well had the boil yesterday. Pretty sure I ate my weight in bugs. Big thanks to all of you who gave your input on this, it worked out great and everything tasted AMAZING!!!!! Purged them in salt water, 3 lemons, 2 red onions, 2 white onions, 2 sacks of ******* taters, 2 bulbs of garlic, 2 lbs of hickory smoked sausage, 15 lbs of bugs. Use Mccormicks carb and shrimp boil seasoning, with a fair amount of sea salt added in. Made of a great way to cure a hang over from my birthday party the night before!

On a side, looks like I've caught the hoopty... I don't wanna be special anyone!!!! :p
