converting from a single axle to tandem?

Had anyone done this before... looks like on my ez loader trailer I can move things around... I wanted a tandem trailer when I bought my boat but the dealer priced himself out of it because I could tell he didn't want to fool with it....

so if anyone can give me a run down of how its done and maybe what I should be looking for in parts... I don't want to sound like a fool when talking to the parts department...lol... I'm pretty handy and have a shop and the tools to get it done... Just never done anything like this before... I have happen to take a few pics of a ez loader tandem trailer the other day when I was at the ramp... looks like I just need to move my axle back a little and install a set of lead springs and bolt up a matching axle and add some wheels and figure out what to do for fenders...

I'm also looking at trading in my trailer for a tandem and pay the difference but I like projects...

I'm in the middle of doing the same thing. Just go to trailer store and tell them you want everything for a tandem axle trailer XX axle width, minus 1 axle.
The centerline where the axle sits now will be the centerline for the equalizer in a tandem setup. Stringline from the ball rather than trying to square from the trailer frame to insure it trails straight.

should be some junker trailers around like yours i had 2 junkers and built mine from then took a torsion running gear axel from a fold up camper trailer and added a third axel .belive it was an apache camper trailer also a junker.

I just did mine this weekend. It only took 1 1/2 days to totally redo it.. Bunks, lights, axles, paint, and all. I ordered all my stuff from trailerpart.com. It was $480 for axle, tandem hanger kit, springs, and new tires/rims and delivered. Bought 2 diamond plate fenders locally for $100.

I hope you put plastic slides on those treated 4x6s because they will eat a hole in your boat.
BTW nice looking rig.

^^^^ x 2 .... The paint on the bottom will help slow it down, but the chemicals in that treated wood are highly corrosive to aluminum.

I've got a new Lowe 2070 and it came with a single axle and I've went through 3 sets of tires in one season! I kept taking it back and all they did was put more tires on it. "Warranty bs". I've contacted the trailer company and they are sending everything to upgrade to a tandom. Except wheels. I've already bought some nice wheels for it.

Yes, that's a complete bolt on setup directly from the factory using my existing axle. Should be here this week. I'll post the finished project when it's done.

Thanks for your Help Jenks... I should have turned my nuts to the outside so I could keep a eye on them to make sure nothing is backing out... so far so good... found the torque specs for everything on axle manufacture site... also fixed my level equalizer problem with a strait hitch which I should have had in the first place since my trailer was never level... still think my tongue weight is too much and should have checked that before hung my equalizer hanger because I could have moved everything forward 3 in... now I need to build new bunks... this stuff never ends...lol...
