Guys, I am looking for a custom boat builder close to Kentucky. I thought I wanted a F&F Custom but they aren't answering their phones. Can someone do some name dropping and a good reputable builder that I know I will get what I pay for!!! I have seen many post on here about people pay for something and not delivering for them.

Robert Thomas of Long Beach Custom Boats has begun my build. He's truly been a pleasure to work with so far and the quality is second to none.

When asked what kind of boat am I building, my reply is, "an aquatic multi-functional outdoor sporting platform".

It's a 21x84 with a 101" beam, 28" sponsons, & a tunnel. My boat will be a fully decked and hand-railed with a 60x45" center console on a platform raised 2' above the deck in the Texas Scooter style. There will be room for 2 120QT coolers, a generator, & tool box beneath the platform. Another cooler can fit beneath the console seat and another will be the seat directly in front of the platform. There is an anchor well, a livewell, 2 rod boxes, & 2 large access hatches. The livewell will double as a catch box with a fish removal slot built in. The deck compartment openings are rimmed with channel extrusion that runs to the bulkheads to drain water which along with the scuppers at the stern provide for a self-bailing design. The hand rail at the bow will have a gate wide enough to allow an ATV to be loaded.

We will have a Minn-Kota Vantage at the bow and push fan at the stern for our trolling needs. I need to get my lights figured out and ordered so we know how to build the rail and I also need to figure out what I'm going to do about paint and deck surfacing. Hopefully I can get this boat home within a month or so and get down to the business of rigging it.

He's a member of this forum as rt1234 and I would suggest anyone considering a new boat give him a good look.

Robert is not a big Internet guy. The type that prefers a text over an email. I think his dad watches the emails for him. I can tell you though that he will customize boats with boxes, T-tops, tunnels, consoles, etc. Folks wanting Long Beach flat bottoms might want to get their orders in. I spent a few hours with him today and it sounds like he wants to make a move to manufacturing larger crafts at some point in the future.

The boys at Long Beach have been busy. The decking and compartment lids are done. The console is nearly complete. I hear the best part of the hand rails were done today and that the fan tower will be built tomorrow. They also put a pair of scuppers at the stern. Looks like I'm going to be cutting a check by the end of next week!

I had what will probably be my last meeting with Robert before picking up my boat. It should be ready the middle of next week. We're going to add some more rail in front of the console, stiffen the handrail posts, add a footrest & light bracket, some storage keepers, finish up the fan tower and then add 18" high side rails at each rear corner. If the trailer is ready in time I should be bringing it home next weekend. :D

Flounder, bowfish, grabbing, trot lining, frogging, gator hunting, night fishing, we'll do it all. This really started off as a gator hunting rig to reduce up & down steps in the boat and get around in the shallows and pads but I got to enjoying reading the flounder gigging and bowhunting forums I decided my boat would have to work for both of these as well.

I'm anxious to get it home and start the rigging process. The real work for me starts next week.

She's home and now it's time to make some decisions about paint, deck surfacing, & rigging for my new flounder, bowfishing, alligator hunting boat. Robert Thomas of Long Beach Custom Aluminum Boats was a pleasure to work with through the entire process. I didn't even mind signing that check!
