I started with a bow that shot 28# and lost a third of my fish, I been shooting at 32# with no lost fish, that's why I was skeptical about 29#, but thanks to you guys I am convinced that the D2 at 29# will do the trick, thanks again
Keep in mind a D2 at 28# with almost a no let off looses a heavy arrow with a good bit more speed than a 28# compound with letoff, and a lot more than a 28# recurve. I don't know what bow you started with, but set around 30# the D2 throws a heavy fish arrow comparable to probably a 35 or 40# compound with letoff.
The max on my brother's D2 is greater than 29#. I think it was around 32# on a bow shop scale, with no adjustment other than tightening the limb bolts. He shoots it down around 25, maybe less, due to a bad shoulder and I think it does a fine job; we shoot most fish in the top 2 ft due to visibility with regular fiberglass arrows.
The reason I read it was marketed as a 29# model is so it could be classed as a target or youth bow; that way, PSE was able to avoid paying fees for selling a sporting/hunting model. Maybe something to do with pittman/robertson conservation dollars? Internet scuttlebutt but could be true. Regardless, they will top out a bit above 29#. Pretty decent bow except the short and skinny grip IMO.
