ahhh yes, the shooting while scouting topic... when its not in the rules I shoot, when its in the rules I dont. We allow it the night before for our shoots, just no scouting 5 hours prior to the shoot... Being respectful to other shooters is another rule.

But regarding WD-40's statement... ...I have been cut off before.... I just play the "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" method of payback. If you cut me off, you better not ***** about me cutting you off two minutes later. If you want to fish next to me, you better be prepared for me to fish next to you, I can shoot fish out from under your lights just as easy as I can mine... LOL
couldnt of said it better

My question was not directed toward shooting before a turny to stash your fish till the next night but just about do you think it hurts yourself if you shoot fish on a Thursday night then go back to the same spot Saturday night during a turny. I was just try to get some ideas if we should be shooting what we see during scouting instead of just looking like we normally do. I do like WD-40''s method of shooting a hole out that i do not plan on hitting during the turny though.

Just think about how many fish you don't see for every fish you do.I've shot a lot of holes for a month straight and killed more fish towards the end than I did from the start. There aint no way to kill them all.I tried way too many times lol.

I do not shoot 2-3-4 days in advance of a tourny unless it's a big 20 or whatever to gage the size of the fish that we're seeing. In a #'s shoot , those fish don't need much training to run when they see the lights approching , so if you're shooting at them now then don't gripe when you come back and there ain't none !!! Fish have small brains , but they do have them !!!jmho

If I could convince my turny partner's into shooting while scouting then the scouting would be alot more fun. Hope they sees this thread. LOL

I definitely can't argue too much with what Butch said either. It's hard to tell just what to expect sometimes. We've found good holes that were piled up,never slung an arrow at none of them only to come back tourney night to find zip. This chit can be a little frustrating at times. That's mainly why I just shoot a couple days ahead of time. That way at least I can say I killed something and had a good time if things do go to pot.

Thats kind of what i am thinking to for know on. We have scouted several times hard, been on fish and show up to nothing during the turny .

Me and Hunt scoutede the Murray Upstate tourny for 2 weeks.. we shot some gar here and there but when it came to the big commons we left them.... once the tourny came around we won big ten.... so we basiclly shoot a couple but try not to shoot the big ones!!
I know that some turnys have rules about shooting so many hours before a turny, but for the people that have the time to hit the water a few days before the restriction and for the turnys that don't have a time rule. Do yall shoot fish while scouting of just look/mark them and go back during the turny?????? If you do shoot at ever fish you see during scouting have you ever went back to the spot during the turny to find no fish left???? We do not shoot any while scouting even if it is 4 days before the turny, but thats just us. Just wondering what the rest of yall do??

It depends on the tournament but most waters are alot more clear than our waters so i like to get to shoot to get use to the water if it's clear. If it's muddy i'm right at home. For better outdoors take a kid hunting & fishing it's our future. Randy

We don't shoot the fish while scouting for a tournament.

Most generally I don't either.Usually we'll burn $70-$100 worth of gas for 3-4 nights. That's usually a ton of miles worth of fish lookin. If I decide that spot sucks I'll plug them fish to keep sharp when heading back out to look for more. The last shoot we shot in my partner wouldn't shoot the night before the shoot even tho we could.I killed dang near as many that night as we did tourney night and I only shot at about one out of every 20 fish we seen. The fish slick left because the weather turned.Wound up taking 3rd in the shoot and missed 2nd by one fish.:tu:It was tough for everybody.

I totally hear ya. It is a pain to let 'em go. Trust me.

Two years ago my friend and I had been scouting for 3 days straight before a tourney. We had the fish pegged...down to their exact spot they wanted to be. We had three different holes loaded with fish. We thought it was going to take at least 300 plus fish to win the tournament. I was taking pictures and video of fish running into the side of my boat.

The night before the tournament the weather changed, and they let the water rise 4 inches...well that sent all our fish to deep water. So come tournament day we ended up getting third place.

Last year we held off again during scouting, smashed the fish during the tournament. 2nd place had 30 fish, and we had 106 fish to take 1st. Then we went and shot that night too, and shot another 183 fish.

Yea not shooting is probably the best strategy.Like you said tho it's hard as hell to just sight see when killing is involved.I just fly by the seat of my pants and do whatever it is my gut tell me to do.Most of the time is says shoot the hell out of them but sometimes it don't.Especially those last couple nights.

ill snatch you up off that airboat and put you in my pocket if you do that to me :) :co:
I’ll park my boat on top of your boat if you even try.
Thats a good way to get shot!! :) Not very sportsman like of either Brady! I'd NEVER DO THAT!!! :)
if anyone shoots at me they better hit me in da head and kill me.
Brady you said a mouth full that time!
this is one of them things like...actually I think "i could be wrong" it’s against the Texas Bowfishing Association rules to have alcohol in the boat during the tournament, so next time someone gives me some static, I’m gona say, I want that team disqualified because they broke the rules…I’ll start a chit storm…
