I have a Briggs & Stratton 3500 watt generator with 120v 20amp double plug and 120v 30amp RV single plug.

I want to run a 12v 55amp powermax convertor to a single battery for my Motorguide wireless 55# thrust motor. From what I've read this is about 800 watts.

I want to run 300w halogens in 500w housings. I think I can run 8 halogens.

I have the generator and will be buying the rest soon. I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing. I will upgrade lights in the future. I have a lot to buy and just want to use halogens for now

Questions:

Can I plug the convertor and my halogen string into the 120v 20amp double plug? or do I need to modify my plug and run it off the RV plug?

Can i wire 8 halogens in a series?

Thanks in advance

If the generator is 3500 watt continuous and the wattage u gave us on the converter is right, it should work fine. But like mud fish said - u are loading up the genny pretty good (if the converter is calling for maximum output).

^Yep. Parallel is the way to go. You'll be maxing out that Genny and blowing through gas. I run six 300w and two 500w halos on my 3,500w Steele Genny. The two 500w lights are on switches and she chuggs the fuel with that much load. Your convertor will use more power than the 400w difference in lighting setups.:pop:.
