So the journey to building my 2nd fan rig has begun after a long time looking for the rig I wanted. At first I was going to buy a already built/rigged boat but just never worked out either the seller would back out or to far or to much money ect ect. So I placed a order with backwoods landing on a 1760 with a 50hp tahatsu, but much to my dismay it was going to take around 10 weeks for them to get to my boat. well about 3 weeks into my order being placed I grew impatient called and my boat hadn't been started yet so I cancelled my order. I got to checking craigslist and found a 1760 F&F in ARK. older hull but seemed nice. I made a call to joe greenway and since it was close to him he did me a huge favor by going and looking at the boat to see if it was worth 5k. The seller had told me for the age of the boat that it was in so many words a 9 outa 10 so I was pumped as crap! Little did I know the seller was slap full of crap, bc joe calls me and said the boat was in BAD shape the motor was shot and the whole transome was about to fall off lol....bad deal I was mad at the seller lol. So the search continues and I found a 2010 1860 F&F with a 2010 2 stroke yammy beautiful boat! got my money together went and met the guy and sure enough he was a stand up dude and the boat was near spotless not a single ding/dint in the hull and the motor looked brand new! So I baught it and here she is.

Needless to say I am in Love with this boat it was one of the last hulls built by the dad at F&F and this thing is a tank! the guy that owned it before me used it to commercial fish out of and had a SS prop put on it that was pitched to get on top with heavy loads. At 3/4 throttle with me and my bro she will run 42, after that I start cavitating so I figure if I wanted a prop just for speed I could get close to 50 outa her with just me in it. But I am just going to keep the prop that is on it for the simple fact 42 is fast enough for me and I like the way this thing jumps outa the hole like it is.

Now with build it had a factory 4ft deck that was inset pretty good as you can see in the pics. I had thought about decking over it but descided to cut ti out and start over.

I went with a 5' deck with the corners 45ed into the side of the boat.

thanx everybody for the compliments if it turns out like i think it is its going to fish like a dream! also i am leaving myself enough room for the future to throw a reduction on this hoe if i ever want more power.

#43 ·

Here is the pipe welded up its 8" schedual 80 or 120 not 100% +. It has two passes on it a root then a cap. I had my lil diversion MAXXED out on the big boy 5/16 wall pipe to 1/4 plate lol shut the machine off 4 times! but being its a miller it cooled and and welded it on out, I was pretty proud of it seeing the maxium rating for this maching is only 3/16 max.
<a href="http://s1230.photobucket.com/user/frmacastan/media/IMG_20130621_183120_919_zpsc43dc31c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee498/frmacastan/IMG_20130621_183120_919_zpsc43dc31c.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20130621_183120_919_zpsc43dc31c.jpg"/></a>

one last picture on the pipe welded on with the 4 bolt flange on the bottom to give a idea of how the shaft will run through. that is 1/4 plate on the bottom as well. just one or two more pieces of bracing and the stand will be ready for mounting. im getting excited!

Thanx buddy! I'm a pipe welder at Austal here in mobile, and we see a lot of ALU pipe, but most everything I weld is stainless and copper nickel . Stainless is by far my favorite but ALU can be pretty cool to weld if your setup right.

well just finished the fan stand only thing left is to do is just a lil framing for the storage (lid framing), and the 3/8 plate to weld up on the top of the shaft for the fan motor to sit on.
<a href="http://s1230.photobucket.com/user/frmacastan/media/IMG_20130623_161459_909_zps2810a33d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee498/frmacastan/IMG_20130623_161459_909_zps2810a33d.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20130623_161459_909_zps2810a33d.jpg"/></a>
I used 1 1/2" solid stock rod 6062 for the center shaft and this stuff is crazy stiff/strong.

here is my steering drum its a 8" 1/8 wall pipe. the reason i went with such a big drum was because i did alot of talking to bert turcotte and he had recently went to 10" drums and said it made a huge difference in his turning and he is running a reduction.i wouldve went with 10 but 8 was the biggest i could find.

Ha sure thing josh.

Its the 165 and its a sick little machine for what it is, nothing but good to say about it. I will however be buying a bigger machine in the future, not sure what miller I want yet.

I love my 350p, got it new for 3, 400 and then bought a used python gun. Thing can do some major welding! I'm used to the miller 650's at work but the inverter welders can kick butt! And use less power for home use! I can puls mig thinner alum then I can tig it. I'm not that great at tiging yet. Mainly bought the tig for casting repairs and such.

#51 ·
I tig everything I can I love it! Never had a weld crack on my old alu. Fan rig.

Well got the pulley brackets built and installed.

Thanx Clete and chad. I have taken my time and thought this build out hard, if it turns out right it will be one of the cleanest fan stands I've seen. Then again a may just be partial BC its my boat lol.

used 3/8 plate for a motor mount, drilled a hole and welded it up thew on some 1/4 gussets.
