Finding rolling gator gar & what do they like?

I’m no expert ,but guard the back of the boat ! We shot 1 off the back this year & could have shot a few more ,if we had someone back there sooner . They seem to want to roll after we pass em !

That's why I have a deck and lights on the back too. I noticed a lot of fish roll after a boat passes while I'm being pulled behind the boat on a hydroslide or skis. For rolling fish, being in the back of the boat is not a bad place to be.

Shooting em is the easiest part. Scouting and finding em is what's hard. A old ugly guy once told me why are you hunting one or two fish when you can find 8 or 10 to shoot. Find the holes that are stacked up and one will F Up sooner or later.

If you leave your bow just out of arms reach all day, you'll see more huge gator gar roll than 1000s donuts in my fav hole on the trinity can produce.

Or just hold your bow with one hand and talk on the phone with the other. GUARANTEED to see a bigun lol

Just find the holes and put in the hours in the hot sun. They're fish, they arent some mythical intelligent creature, they'll eventually mess up and you just have to make the opurtunity count.

I went out yesterday and there was a guy sitting in the same spot that I had seen him sitting at the last three times I have gone out. Well when I came back by I noticed he was on the other side of the river. About 10 minutes later he came tearing up river to my boat asking if I knew where he could get a big scale. He had shot one about 7'6". He had been in that same spot since 9 that morning and it was 5 when he shot it. He had been fishing that hole for a year and a half. The smile on his face was from ear to ear.

Sounds like you got them all figured out. Let's see some pix, I love looking at a bunch of big gar pix.
