Float pods on a Bass Tracker

Ive got a 1648 and this winter I am redoing a bunch of things, one of which will be 3 large batteries and a starting battery. On top of that I have a 12 gallon fuel tank.

The back already sits low the water, and I am afraid with the new batteries and a good load of fish, it could end in disaster.

Anyone know what I should do about adding some float pods. I will have them built locally. Just tryig to see what size I should go with, and angle Etc

Lets try this one agian...lol..

Jeff I had pods added to my 16x48... and loved it... I just added the Large Beaver Tail pods to the hull 5 years ago when they were cheap... not so much anymore... you just need to make sure you measure everything out for clearance... the larger you go the more flotation you will get out of them... but also keep in mind you limit what size of motor you can use also... I didn't have any problems since I was running a Mud Motor but I wanted to put a OB jet on it and I couldn't after the pods... mine were built with a 1in angle...

I thought about putting them on mine jeff.. I have 12 gallons of fuel 2 troller batteries 1 cranking battery and my seat is over top of all that right at the transom... it sits low till we put 3 on the deck then its fine. also instead of putting them on mine ... I am just going to sell it to marc and buy a bigger boat lol.

I personaly went to big with my pods on that Jon boat... we had to load up the back to balance out everything the Genny sat above the Mud Motor - then the 6 gallon fuel and batteries... at times we had to fill the pods with water so we could get the nose up more when fishing with big boys on the deck...

now my new rig has pods also since I love to use them as steps and my dog uses it to get in the boat when duck hunting... I let the builder do his thing and the pods bottoms are the same same sheet as the hull bottom... no welds to act like trim tabs... but they are much smaller in size and its a perfect bled for my set up...

Thank for the info. Once I get my floor, front deck and rear deck, Ill have to take it out and mark how it sits in the water. I dont want it to affect my plane at all or top speed

Do pods help with the ability on the front deck at all?

Idk if it was the way mine were built but it ruined my 1648 boat. I was so excited to get them and when I welded the on the boat my boat plowed sooooooo bad it was SCARY to be in the boat turning was even worse. I took them off and modifed them to have a greater angle and it helped but it was still no good it plowed water and turning was terrible.

they def helped with bringing the rear end up but thats all it accomplished.

looked real nice but just be careful who makes them and how the angles are taken

just my .02

Great thread! I have my 1648 for sale rite now but if it don't sell in the next coupele weeks I'm wanting to get pods as well it's got a 65hp motor and I'm going to go to LEDs so I'll be adding a few more batteries and the rear already sits pretty low!
