I have an Alweld 1660 center console with an evinrude 85 on it and i was wondering about adding float pods to help me plane out faster and draft shallower. In the back i have 3 marine batteries and a generator so the back is pretty weighted down but i have never noticed major issues when it comes to floating shallow water but im always trying to improve things. With three people in the boat, deck, 4 400 watt hps lights, and a barrel full of fish and all the other gear sometimes it takes a while to plane out and i thought float pods might help correct this. Any information and suggestions would be appreciated. thank you in advance.

Hey man me and my buds just built a set of pods for my buddy's 14/48. We built them out of 1/8" tread plate. It took some time to weld up the first pod becaue after doing some research we found a lot guys slope the pods bottom up by around 1/2" to 1" and finding the angle of the back of the boat made it a little tricky. We tried them out the other night and I could tell a differance in getting the boat to plane out plus with over 400lbs of men standing at the back with a 25hp tiller and genny stand and champ 3500watt the water line was at a safe level. I would def put some on your boat. I think Cabelas has beaver tail pods on sale right now you might check that out. I'll post some pics of our build.

Oh and the sloped pod is supposed to help not drag through the water once the boat is on plane

I just put some on my 1448 and they raised the back up about 4-5 inches. Thats with me steering the tiller motor. The champion on the rack and a full tank of gas. I started with boyd weldings specs and just customized them to fit my needs. I went with longer instead of taller because only the submerged part of the pod is what helps. I think it is somewhere around 1 cubic foot of volume holds up 63lbs. Mine were built to hold up a little over 200lbs extra.

1660 with and 85 hp and you're not planing fast enough? I have a 1760 made of .125 on everything, weighs in at 2160#'s fully rigged and the hole shot is awesome with my 85 evinrude. Tops out in the mid forties with no fish. Might be more to it than meets my eye, but I suspect something isn't right with your motor or prop.
