Just wanted to let everyone know. Tonight around 6 or 7pm EST we will be bringing down the systems. This should probably last less than one hour. But when we bring them down there wont be any messages as to why.

Why?

Funny you should ask. Its part of a 2 part process.

Part 1. - We are moving the forums to a temporary, yet dedicated, server. This should resolve nearly all of the performance problems (speed) we have been seeing since the switch.

If anything goes wrong we can simply fall back to where we are now but in either case the home of the forums will only last a few days until.

Part 2. - The shiny new Dell server shows up that is being ordered tonight. This new system will be also dedicated to just the forums

Since we went ahead and bought into the new licenses, we may as well go all the way and get them running on a new speedier machine.

That should take a few days for delivery and configuration though and we want to speed things up before then.



Soooooo... Expect an hour or so of downtime tonight. If all goes well we will be snappier after this move - enough to hold us all over until the new machine gets here.
