We made a wallet also! I was doing doughnuts one day on the river, and the idea came to me....boots and a wallet would be the chit. I used 5 minute epoxy and the back skin of the gar...
You could probably do a strip of gar skin/scales down the top of the boot pretty easy. Lot tougher to make the whole bottom of the boot out of gar skin with scales.
I am not 100% positive guys, but as far as I know the gar hide does not tan. It would not stretch over a last at all. Seth is 100% correct on the fact that it would be unstitchable. Now foteef has a good idea with putting a strip say in the tops. If it does tan well, it could possibly be inlayed into a top. It would be a trick keeping in on there without stitching it, but I think it would be doable. Ive seen silver and gold plate inlays. A piece like that would be do able.
