I have a Sportsman 1500/2000 watt green one from TSC. The thing is tempermental as it gets. And today I was trying to start it up and it is firing up and then 3 secs later shuts it self off, if it does run it skips and throttles itself up and down until shutting itself off. Has oil and gas, what is wrong with this thing?

My Champion did the same thing....took the bowl off the carb and cleaned the junk out of it, made sure the float was free, and that seemed to fix it.

Assume it's one thing until you know it's not. Start with fuel cause that's usually it. If the carb is spotless and the float and needle are seating correctly (which is what I think it is btw), check your mix screws, could be too rich. Then pull your spark plug and sniff for gas in the bore. If you can't smell gas then spray some gas (not much) in the spark plug hole, reassemble and try to start. If it starts, you have a fuel delivery problem. Rebuild your carb or for $15 get a new one. If you can smell gas then, check your spark plug for spark. If you have spark, then check the exhaust for obstruction. If that's not it, smell your oil for gas. If there is gas in your oil, you are beyond my help... but I have found invaluable help from this website http://www.perr.com/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=14&sid=81af42abbe8da1f9f7bedcf0b4dadb03. Don't know why it didn't copy as a link but don't know how to fix it. Good Luck.

Low oil sensor would be something else to check as well, have had to bypass them on some generators before.

Mine would run fine then just shut off. No choking, not hiccup just off. Would fire right back up though. Haven't got a solution yet, but it's either low oil or bad gas.

x2 on a bad seal. if the bowl is clean, then you are getting air from somewhere. check your seals and lines. the ethanol added to fuel these days is horrible on small engine seals and lines, and ethanol mixes with water (condensation) more easily than gas. I'd be willing to bet that that is why water/fuel separator sales have jumped up over the last year or two. once you get it fixed, add green stabil to every tank. if you don't want to mess with additives, you could just run it dry or dump the old gas and refill with fresh. hope this helps

Mines about to be my new anchor. I have taken that carb off 10 times, I can't find a solution. Good thing I bought that 1 year replacement, maybe I can get my $$$ back and go buy LEDs
