ok so i recently picked up a S&W 9mm from this old man. Didnt pay much for it and its in great shape and shoots really well. im wanting to find out the history of the guy but the internet has little to no info on the gun. S&W had little info without paying for it and all the told me was it was intended to be a military guy. the model is a 39-2 and is Nickel plated and i have both style of grips. S&W said the nickel plated ones were by far more rare but thats all they could say. and that it was probably made in early 70's based on seria l# ... does anyone have one of these? know where i can get more info? maybe a price of what its worth?

Any help would be great.
Thanks

think its a model smith built before or after the browning (high power) 9mm came out to production . browning was known to shop his guns around place to place and some companies would make slight changes then produce them.

They were originally designed for military use, but after years of searching the military went a different route. The seals carries the 39-2, they wanted a single action semi auto which is what the 39-2 is. But then it became a civilian gun. You see the nickel plated 39-2's go for 350-550 depending on condition. And there are a few that can be worth more if they were used by the Illinois police who carried them for a while.
