kind of waited till the last minute on this for some reason but my deck is getting built on my boat this weekend and i'm trying to decide which lights to use. In the past i've used the standard halogen flood lights with the nipple and just drilled a hole in a plate and mounted them that way. I have recently thought that using those work style lights (minus the stand) would work and they would mount easily. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to mount those regular flood lights and if the beam spread will be much different from the work light to the regular flood lights?

Any input is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Mike

it comes down to how much you want to spend IMO but the work lights if they get bump or knocked the mount tends to bend easily and the bolts holding the mount to the light tends to wiggle loose the disappears the floodlights i think are built a lil better and can be mounted better. but if you want to save money then i would go with the red work lights sold at lowes we have used the walmart and the red ones sold at lowes and the red ones are built better and the mounts are a lil smaller so there is less area to be bent

Also usually the work lights have a deeper reseted bulb, meaning the light pattern will not have as wide of a angle. Plus the others look better.

Yep. I use a rubber washer between my housing and bracket. Just make sure you don't put the light housing in a bind, it will crack. If you are doing a light rail on the boat above i suggest, make all of the bracket legs, bolt to the housing then tak weld each leg to the rail, remove lights then weld away.

i will be using a raised platform with the lights underneath so i think if i'm able to drill into the housing i may be able to just make like 90 degree brackets for each side and mount to the bottom of the platform. thanks for the insight fellas. i'll post pictures when i'm all done with it.
