Over the weekend a friend of my brothers had his truck broken into. The theif busted out his window and took several items including my brothers Droid phone. I was out of town and without phone service until yesterday. He finally got me on the phone and asked if I could locate his phone with Latitude. I tried yesterday evening and his location had not been updated since the phone was taken. Well first thing this morning I try again and wa-la its show that his location had been updated within the last minute. I got the address and notified my brother.
Well it was a few hours later and a detective called me. He asked about the location and how I was able to determine where it was. I told him about the app "Latitude" on google maps and how my brother and a few other friends were linked on it. He was excited about that and said he was heading to that location to check it out. When he arrived he found nothing and called to tell me. I looked on my phone again and saw where the theif had the phone on and was at the grocery store.
By this time I have located the names of the property owners from the previous location of the phone and plan to page them in the grocery store to see if they are there. In my mind that would not be a coinsidence and theif would be caught.
That didn't happen. Instead I met the detective in the grocery store parking lot. I got in his car to show him how this Latitude worked. When I pulled up their location they had left the grocery store but were still in the parking lot at the Burger King. I had a really good lock on the location so I just got out of the detectives car and started walking towards the phone. I was watching my location get closer and closer to my brothers phone location and when I was right on top of it I was standing right next to a pickup truck with the windows down. There sat a crackheaded ****** and his girlfriend. The detectives caught up with me and I showed them my phone. Standing about arm lengths away from this theif I turned to the detectives and said "we are here men".
I wish I had a picture of the faces in that truck when I said that.
They asked the guy his name and if he had identification. There on the seat sat my brothers phone. The officer asked for the phone and handed it to me. He asked if this belonged to my brother. I checked the contacts list and recognized several names and numbers and said yes that is it.
They removed the guy from the truck and cuffed him. They recoved several of the items that were stolen right then and there. Sure glad to have that scum bag off the streets.
