Have never lost an arrow. I leave my drag lose and run 200lb line. When i hit fish I slowly tighten down drag. You don't ruin the reel that way either because it has some give and a bit of line goes out to take the sudden shock if you forget to press button. Once I lost an arrow and it ticked me off after three days having to look at it I jumped in with my cloths on and got it back. LOL

With slides you are putting the stress of the string in two places instead of one. My loop on the arrow moves around so you are not always stressing the same spot. Tie to the back and that would stress out the string alot quicker. Try to respool with new string every year to avoid losing arrows as well. Right or wrong, it works for me.
