How many batteries?

We have an 1860 with a not nearly big enough 55lb troller. We pretty well run the troller full blast all night and always go through 2 batteries and sometimes 3 on real long nights. We are looking to upgrade to a MK maxxum 80 24v. Do you all think if we upgrade one set batteries will get us through the night or you think we will need a spare set of batteries with us? I'm thinking we will not be going through the batteries so fast if we upgrade to the bigger 24v troller and not have to run full blast all night.

Hard to believe we would need 3 sets of batts. We are going through 3 batts now on 12v system on a 12hr night. 80lb 24v should be more efficient than what we ate using now I'd think. What kind of trollers you burning up? Reason for us going to bigger troller is so we don't have to run full blast.

Can't answer all questions but my own observation... On my 18.5' G3, two batteries on a 12V 45# Motorguide, I would have to run the switch on at least #4 and half through the night on #5 (full throttle) and would get 5-5.5 hours on full charged batteries.

I recently installed a 24V Minn Kota 70# Edge and I bass fished in the wind for 5 hours with the motor on #2 and #3 constant and it pulled the boat better and held in places my 45# would never have dreamed of on #5 and I still had plenty of battery left (same two batteries) after 5 hours.

My theory is that the motor pulls less amps to push the boat better and I will get 6+ hour if not more moving my boat at the same bowfishing speeds this year.

I believe it is like gas motors and torque. A small gas motor will not always get better fuel milage than a bigger motor with low end torque moving the same mass and weight. The bigger motor work much less harder to achieve same movement and thus use les fuel.

Thank you for your reply, it helped a lot!! That is what I was I was hoping to see, the 55 we have one the boat now is a turd and if it burns up oh well it won't be much of a loss. Sometimes I wish it would so we would have to commit to a new one lol. I'm thinking the 80 is gona be a huge difference to us and it will not be staining nearly as hard as our 55 to do what we need to do.

I hear ya!! From now until the bigheads come up we run halos, converter be awesome to have right now but we still have to be setup for when the genny has to stay at home. When we are out for bigheads how much would a coverter help if we fired the genny up just when we motor from place to place? Say a 10min run every couple hrs

I run a 24V Motorguide 71lb on a 1660 flatbottom & rarely bump up to 2 or 3. Batteries will last 12 hours unless I really "dog it". Run WIDE open on 5 & maybe 6 hours

If we knew forsure we could run all night on one set of batteries with a 101 we might consider goin that route. If not we will probably end up with a 80 and two sets of batts. We are in the process of extending our front deck and we are going to move our troller batteries under it so we are just worried we will be getting to much weight up front.

That With your LEDs running continuos? If we go with the 80 we will have 4 batteries after reading everyone's replies. Our LEDs will be on a separate battery and not be ran continuously, just flip em on to scan for bigheads then right back off.
