I have 6-400w ballasts and run them turned down on 250. One because I only need one small gen but mostly because a 2000K hps bulb turned to 250w puts off a great deep yellow glow that is easy on the eyes. I have the ability to turn the fronts up to 400 if the water is bad Although i usually don't mess it them. Could use another gen and use all on 400 if I decide to go too a lake with traditionally more stained water too. it's always an option and a great range of versatility to have.. There is a noticeable difference in 250 and 400w settings personally. Really noticeable at first but after a min or so you'll realize you can see plenty enough. I also can't say that switching to 400 would be enough to put several more fish in the boat. I'll stick with the 250 setting personally.
