You dont need to see the bottom you need to see the fish. And the fish GLOW under hps. It seems not as bright and all, but the light carries better and really lights up the fish and its easier on your eyes.
agree X2 I fished with 2 500 watt halo work lights off a 14 ft jon boat and couldn't see crap ended up shutting off the genny an put the lights in the back of the boat and used a spotlight.

No I sold em for 15 buck per light.

Honestly I think when it comes to hps I'd rather use halo's in the low wattage 150's but prefer the higher watt's over halo's anyday. Its like the saying with motor's there's no replacement for displacement. When your putting out that much light halo's dont even compare.

That's the key right there, I don't worry about seeing the bottom the trolling motor will find it for me lol

i didnt like the yellow look either so i put 4 225ultras in between them. i like them better now.

If you don't know where the bottom is how do you know if its 10 feet deep or 5 ft deep or 1 ft deep. If ya can't see the bottom how do you know if the fish that are on the bottom are even viewable...IMO ya gotta be able to know if you are seeing bottom to know if fish are there. If ya can't see bottom who know whats going on.

You guys gotta be blind to not know if your looking at dirt or not. Not many places I know of dont have a seashell or a rock on the bottom every now and then.

Ya'll must fish alot of clear water. I can see pretty good with halos. There are tons of people who use hps and I guess it works for them and that's fine. Never fished with MH so that's my next money spending adventure.

i gauge it by my surroundings flat land around you means shallow water, steep banks means deep water, also if you look back and the troller is throughing up mud you know your shallow. the thing is even if i cant see the bottom, my 400 watt hps light a fish up like a christmas tree if its on the bottom

Exactly!!! I DO NOT LIKE THE YELLOW AT ALL!! Once you go white you never go back.
We switch out the bulbs to M/H once in a while just to prove a point. They never stay in very long though since I'm not a big fan of the M/H glare.

If you are impressed by glare these are the lights for you.

I'm not impressed by glare--I just like being able to see the fish. I'll take this anyday over the picture above.

if you cant tell where the bottom is, then you are in some sucky bowfishing water. or its just too deep to see the bottom period...

I have never had a hard time seeing fish with HPS lights, now my junky azz MH on the front of my airboat, well that is another story.

anyone want to buy the guts for six 400 Watt MH lights? Bulbs, Ballasts, Caps, etc? Everything to get a nice ballast box started...

Murky water with a sand bottom can look like your not seeing bottom until you come by some sorta structure. rock, plant, debri ect. Then you just realize the color of water and sand under the yellow lights look the same-ish. I was out Sunday night for the first time in my new boat and first time with hps and that was my opinion.

I like skinny blonds with little boobs...you might like fat red heads with big boobs...its a personal preference, chit...

Just like with lights, theres a different preference for different situations
