idk if you can see that good enough or not but the legs sat flush on the boat and were braced all around the bottom

 

Each side is 1 1/4" angle.The angle goes inside the gunwales instead of the outside.Each have one hole drilled right through the center and through the gunwales.Two 1/4" bolts with wing nuts hold the whole thing on.It's solid as if it had been welded to the boat.The front is 1 1/4" flat and it's not bolted.

Is this a steel frame? If so is it very heavy? Was thinking of building mine out of steel and decking it with alum.

 

i put a steel deck on my 2472 seaark last year and that thing is heavier than chit, takes 4 guys to put it on, wouldnt waste the time, go aluminum

Catfish, the steel itself isn't that much heavier than aluminum piece for piece (1x1x16ga. vs 1.5x1.5x.125 alu). Also plywood is about the same weight as a .125 sheet of aluminum but a heck of alot cheaper. The main way you would save weight by using aluminum is by using less bracing and using the top as part of the structure. For the weight savings is it worth the extra cost? For me when I built the deck NO, but someday I would like to go all alu. anyways.

How big is that deck Chance?

 

Built to the exact dimensions of my dad's 1860 g3 deck, can't remember what they were off the top of my head but I built it with scrap I had laying around and about 30$ worth of expanded, it's 18" off the floor

 

I've got a question that pertains to elevated decks. What do you guys do about steering the boat when you go out by yourselves? I can see ok if there's a stand up console but a lot of you use tiller motors, so how do you see around the lights and other stuff that blocks your view?

 

I can see under and over mine while I'm at the tiller a lot of the time I'll put my knee on the bench next to me so I'm stable but I'm still pretty much standing up
