Alright guys,
I am looking into buying an Inverter Generator like the Honda eu2000. Before I jump out there and spend $883 (Wisesales.com) on a new Honda I wanted to get yal's opinions on the other less expensive brands. Such as the Briggs and Stratton, Kipor, Generic, HoneyWell, etc.

I have been using a Champion 2500, it took up a lot of room in my 16' boat and was a little noisy, but overall I was happy with it. Unfortunately, it is no longer with us due to a night burglar whom made his was into my storage building on Christmas Eve night:tap:. But anyways, I want to get something that is quieter and takes up less room.

Thanks, Jake

I did a lot of research into the new inverters last year. You will save a couple of hundred on the knockoffs, but you're taking a chance in the long run. The knockoffs such as the Generac, Honeywell, and ETQ are made in China. I haven't looked lately, but a lot of the initial reviews weren't very good. Also, Honda adamantly attacks patent offenders, so even though they look like a Honda, they won't run like one. When I make the jump to inverters, it will definitely be Honda or Yamaha.

The Generac ix2000's look good, but the reviews that I have read on them seem very mixed. Please keep us posted on your experiences with them.

I currently have a McCulloch 5700 watt generator (non-inverter style). Works great, but very loud. Made in China and parts are no longer available. It's basically a throw away generator at this point. Luckily I bought it used in like new condition on craigslist for cheap, so I don't have much invested in it at all. Dependability and parts availability along with a proven track record will be my priorities in my next generator purchase. My current generator gets me by for now, but the Honda or Yamaha inverter style are next on my list. You can hardly find a bad review on them.

Yeah, I am defiantly leaning towards the Honda, but being such a tight a$$ I had to look into the cheaper brands. Thanks for the comments.
I doubt yo azz is tighter than mine Griggs and when it came time to buy a gen I told the wife that I will NOT buy a cheap one only to regret it later. So I relaxed the cheeks and bought a Honda eu 3000is and it has been one of the best buys I've made...do it, you won't regret it later!!!

I have a Generac ix2000 and I think its WAY louder than the Honda eu2000 I heard. My WEN 3500 is almost the same as the Generac. (I have not tested them side by side yet tho)

Does anyone have any experience with the new Briggs and Stratton 2000w Inverter? They look to be a good buy...
No real experience, my shooting partner works for a local tractor and farm equipment dealership. They got a couple of briggs inverters in back before christmas, Not a whole lot cheaper than the honda, and a little louder too. However, If I had to get something besides a Honda/Yammaha it would be the Briggs. I have two standard briggs generators that I keep for the deer camp, power outages, etc, and they have been very dependable over the years. every now and then I have to clean the carbs or replace some fuel lines, but no major problems and they both will crank on the second pull most of the time. Their only down fall is when they are running they are loud as pulpwood trucks...

As long as Briggs has been around, I think they would stand behind it and offer good customer service and parts which is key over time! Stay away from the fly by night and obsolete no parts available companies...

Husqvarna also has come out with a small generator, I dont think its an inverter, but its small, light weight, and not too loud. Pricing will be reasonable for the budget minded bowfisherman too. I believe my partner will be putting one of these in his fanboat sometime this spring, so we will find out what its made of over the course of this year.

I will say that My eu3000 honda is the best investmet I have ever made. I have 3 solid years and countless hours on it and all I have done is change the oil as needed, (never burns oil), changed the airfilter once, and put one spark plug in it just cause I thought it may like a new one.

When deciding on trying to save a few bucks on a cheap generator think about this...... How bad do you want to be able to fish a big money tournament til the end? Many entry fees are in the area of $150-$300. If that cheap generator that you saved three hundred dollars on craps out, are you prepared to be ok with the wasted entry fees? When I put my boat in the water for a tournament, the last thing I want to worry about is my generator.
You will notice that there are bad and mixed reviews of the cheaper inverter generators. I think its pretty safe to say that mixed reviews for Honda and Yamaha are pretty much non-existant. My 2 cents.

That sums things up nicely. Cheaper is only better until it breaks or craps out. If I were spending that kind of money anyway on an inverter style, I'm going with the one with the proven track record of reliability and is know for its quiet operation.

I have had my Honeywell for over a year and have only had one problem......one night it sputtered and wouldn't stay running. Talked with my small engine guy and said it was the ethanol gas.......I was skeptical but I did what he said: drain the gas, add some high octane ethanol free gas, run a tank though it and never put ethanol gas in it again. I have done just that since and haven't had any problems. I would have rather had a honda though.
