Hey guys,

Just picked up my first ever boat today. It's a 1652 with a 9.9 johnson.

I'll be making a thread soon with pics to get some ideas on the overall plan but I need a few things answered.

I've bowfished for years when they spawn and just started recently getting into the night fishing with a spotlight on the shoreline.

I don't have a clue when is comes to wiring and the electrical system.

I'd love to have a LED only boat so I don't have to run a genny.

Is the LED going to be bright enough in muddy waters and does it compare with hps lights?

Is there a way I could make a removable light rail system so I could still use my boat to bass fish?

I have a 6ft flush deck, I'll post pics in another thread, what should I look into to mount the lights on?

For an LED system, what would I need besides lights, batterys, wire and a rail system?

When I get farther down the road in my build is when I'll need some info. wiring.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mudfish is right.. The HPS lights are awesome.. But I personally wouldn't do an hps setup on your size boat just for the weight factor. I would either do the LED's or stick with the good ole Q-beam! The bad thing about LED's is in a couple years they will be 100X better than the top of the line light of today.. But its all personal preference man!! Do waht you can afford and what makes the most sense for how you fish and your conditions.. You will find that the best people to get advice from are the ones that shoot in areas similar to where you will and the style you will.. Shooting big fish differs drastically as to how you shoot numbers in regards to equipment setup.. As does night vs. Day fishing! A removable deck is pretty easy.. I have one on my boat and love it!! Mines flush many prefer raised but again keep in mind the size of your boat, the number of shooter you'll have, weight, and the kind of water you'll be in.. The Ohio river that we shoot on is a totally different animal than the around here. Good luck and do what you think will fit your needs the best!! When it comes to wiring oldbaldguy is the electrical guru!!

I will not continue to rehash this question

http://bow.fishingcountry.com/forums/showthread.php?13446-would-these-led-lights-be-bright-enough

we ran my lights all night last night from 2030 till 0330 this morning off the batteries, we also ran the troller a little, but fount that the the fan served us better in all the grass and shalloew water. the charging circuit on the fan kept a charge on the batts despite constant use of the electric starter. I have a dc generator also but never ran it.

There is no doubt, that you can get the ultimate amount of light running a genny, with (insert favorite AC light here including AC LED's) however there is also no doubt that you will not be running them off of a battery.
there are trade offs to considder, do you have the money to purchase a genny, or maby you already have one, do you have the technical knowledge to install your light of choice(not a problem because there is plenty of free advice on this site). Do you have a place to mount a genny and its weight in the boat. Do you have any desire to run quiet ie no genny or fan for that matter, maby you like the sound of nature or maby your hunting in populated areas and dont want to offend..

I think LED's are here, they are not prohibitively expensive, you can run them off of batteries for totally quiet creeping around, if you have a fan, your charging or lighting circuit on the motor may be enough to keep your lights and batteries going all night depending on how many watts you running, as mine does. I have two deepcycle batteries to run lights (10 X 20W + 6 X 10W = 260W) troller, and act as my starting battery the charging circuit on my main motor/fan charges the batteries when it running.

mind you I do have an Auxillery pull start on my main engine just in case( yes I have had to use it), and I do have a DC generator just in case( i am working hard to eliminate it), but as stated above I ran for nearly 7 hours last night with minimal troller use, and never used the DC genney. And it was nice running the troller in silence.

We love HPS but I it depends on how you are going to do it. A 1652 isn't bad on size. If you know how to gut the lights and run it towards the back go hps. I can't remember the name but there is a company that makes a 6 pack of 150 watt hps
we have ran that and they are small and not very heavy. So I would go that route. If you are in muddy water go HPS
