I started collecting parts, and eventually came up with this. 2" aluminum pipe for the pedestal. 2 3/8" flange bearings. Or one flange, and one press fit for the bottom. 3" aluminum pipe slides neatly on the 2". I made steering drums by welding plate to the 3" pipe. Also for the motor mount. A sawz-all cuts aluminum neatly. I bought a tubing roller from harbor freight, and welded the shoud. 6" aluminum pipe for the bearing shells. Stainless cable for steering. Garage door pulleys, and fab your steering drums of choice. I used a go cart sprocket, and a small gearmotor for steering. Arrow prop makes a lightwieght prop. I recommend a two cyl engine over a single. The single will thump. and unseat the carb float. I did go to propane, and it solved two problems. The carb problem, and shutting the motor off. I can still run the motor on gasoline. At least until the plugs foul. Nothing is as easy and it looks, and If I did not have the local scrap yard, and a small lathe. None of it would have happened.
