I'm looking for a backup/guest retriever. The newbies keep forgetting to push the button and I have had to rebuild two reels already this year plus lost/broken arrows and a few dry fires. They can be well used, just need to work.

After watching a few new guys this year I feel like that leaves a lot of room for error still. Mostly the line getting wrapped around something passing the rest, reel and rod. Have you ever had anything like that happen?

What rest are you using. I was using a victory rest on my last bow and never had an issue. There are only like 1000 different options for rest though. Lots of guys tttb and dont seem to regret it. Now I'm shooting a nitro with the nitro rest and it hasnt had any issues either. 1000's of shots off that rest already without a hiccup.

If you are shooting a Muzzy you should not be using slides. If you switch to TTB your newbies will learn a lot faster to push the button.

This is coming from a guy that loves AMS. There is no reason to have to buy new reels. Just change up how you are doing things and people will learn

I love ttb, but...there is more room for error. Especially if you are shooting a bow with crossing cables and shooting anything except a shelf/epoxy rest. I started as a kid with hand wrap and dacron line ttb. I dodged my share of snapbacks and got hit by the rest of them. Equipment has come a long way, but seeing how nowadays it seems like everyone is going at night...I don't know if I'd want someone who has never bowfished before doing it for the first time on my boat with my bow with a spinner tied to back. I'd feel a lot better if they do a practice session on land in daylight, first. I know, proper spectra line should break, but you still hear about people getting hurt once in a while.

Line fray is not an issue for me shooting 200ff and epoxy rest. Line fray or not, newbies will likely lose more arrows tied to back than with a retriever and slides. I personally think you are right to look for another bottle if newbies are going for their first time at night.
